A ‘helpful’ network alongside the growth of the little ones against psychological distress. This is the proposal involving paediatricians, school managers and representatives of institutions, discussed during the conference entitled “Spring of Paediatrics – Reflections on a changing paediatrics”, held on Saturday 11 May at the Hotel Nettuno in Catania.

Discussing it, together with speakers and participants, was Dr. Carlo Gilistro, pediatrician and member of the Ars. “It is a delicate moment for paediatrics. Let’s think about the effects of the pandemic and above all those linked to the disproportionate use of smartphones and video games – explains Dr. Gilistro -. I believe that a virtuous alliance between politics and healthcare is fundamental for the happy growth of our children and young people.”

The event brought together pediatricians and professionals from all over Sicily and most of the regions of Italy, as well as specialists, to explore a multidisciplinary approach, contributing to the sharing of better solutions tailored to the young patient and his family. From the medicine of the immediate future to the birth of consciousness, from art understood as a cure for the soul to childhood obesity.

“A fundamental event for us, one of the most important of the year”, comments Dr. Antonino Gulino, family pediatrician and national contact person for bioethics of the FIMP (Italian Federation of Pediatricians), as well as scientific director of the event together with Dr. Alberto Fischer, President of the Paidos cultural association. “We have always dealt with training with the Cultural Association of Paediatricians of Catania. With this conference we tried to bring together all the souls of paediatrics, both from a university point of view with the presence of the clinical directors of the three Sicilian universities, including Professor Martino Ruggieri (director of the pediatric specialization school of Catania), Professor Giovanni Corsello (director of the maternal-child department of the Palermo Polyclinic), and Professor Claudio Romano (full professor of pediatrics at the University of Messina and director of the pediatric gastroenterology and cystic fibrosis operational unit), who from an institutional point of view. Among ours were also internationally renowned speakers such as Professor Gianfranco Tajana, an illustrious researcher who spoke to us about the progress in the field of new neurosciences”.

The event saw active involvement and discussion between all the participants, who agreed on the continuous commitment of their professional training so that it can translate into better assistance for children and adolescents.
