There is a private citizen willing to pay out of his own pocket to save the monumental tree he sees every day a stone’s throw from his office. The story would have moved JRR Tolkien, but it does not come from the old England dear to the Oxford professor, but from Cuneo.

The main character is Corrado Beccacini, professional financial advisor for Fineco Bank, but also well known in the world of sport as president of Pro Dronero. He is the one who turns to the mayor of Cuneo Patrizia Manassero externalizing, he says, “my personal concerns and those of many of my clients with whom I discussed the topic regarding the beautiful trees of the Fresia Gardens, a historical memory of our city”. What worries the volcanic patron of Dronere above all are the rumours “regarding the possible demolition of what is probably the oldest plant on the entire plateau, which overlooks Lungogesso Giovanni XXIII next to our bank”.

“It is said that it would be absolutely possible to guarantee its stability – adds Beccacini – but this would entail an additional cost of a few thousand euros. I don’t know if this is true, because it seems to me that all the measures already adopted are more than sufficient to ensure a high level of safety”. In any case, let it be known, “I would also be willing to personally pay any costs of further maintenance, due to the enormous historical, environmental and emotional value of this beautiful tree”.

The consultant asks the mayor for feedback on the possibility of such an action, recalling how under the Borgna administration a large acacia tree next to the panoramic lift was “pardoned”, also in that case with her interest. A discussion was started with the municipal offices, recipients of the “petition” last April 29th.
