An army of fifty – Sports Daily

Contracts, renewals, redemptions and… new strategies. It will be a complicated start to 2024-25 for Pisa, faced with countless situations to be defined. While Stefano Stefanelli is continuing with the Nerazzurri until the end of his contract, with Juventus having a leading role ready for the first team, as Cristiano Giuntoli’s right-hand man, many problems remain to be resolved. In the meantime, the team will continue to train until the end of the Serie B playoffs, for what can be considered, to all intents and purposes, a punitive extra period. The club is very disappointed with the performance and the poor mentality shown by the players, and the critical issues to be resolved were also shared by the general management with the senators in the locker room. The protective aura, which has always been a trademark of Pisa SC, has not been reciprocated and a revolution could be ready, also to prevent more than 40 players from retiring. Between existing contracts, returns from loans or possible missed redemptions, the risk is to have almost 50 players under contract.

An enormity. In the first team, as is known, expiring on 30 June 2024, are both Miguel Veloso, on whom there is still a renewal option, not yet exercised for now, then Matteo Campani, who will probably leave Pisa and, as known, Gaetano Masucci , ready to retire and absorbed into the management cadres. Then there are 13 players who will expire in June 2025, for whom the club will have to decide what to do. These are Nicolas, Leverbe, Caracciolo, Hermannsson, Marin, Torregrossa, Touré, Loria, Moreo, Barberis, De Vitis and Beghetto, who remained under contract. Some of these may have arrived at the ‘end of the cycle’, from Torregrossa, victim of many ailments and 7 injuries during this season, through to De Vitis, who has only made 4 appearances. It remains to be seen whether Leverbe, Hermannsson, Caracciolo and Touré will be able to be part of the project, if deemed suitable by Aquilani, provided that the coach can remain, or by another coach with the same tactical characteristics. We need to understand the situation of Marin, who from this season became eligible for the flag footballer box. So Barberis, certainly off the radar for at least half the season. Also in the first team, Piccinini, Esteves, Mlakar, Beruatto and the Tramoni brothers all have contracts until 2026, with Matteo Tramoni who has a renewal option until 2027. Finally, Nicholas Bonfanti, Alessandro Arena and Simone Canestrelli are under contract for 2027 , the latter being a matter of interest in Serie A.

Then there is an army of returns from loans, up to 20. Seck, Guadagno, Di Quinzio, Giani, Sussi, Santoro, Zuelli, Livieri and Ionita all return and expire in 2025. Consequently, Pisa will have to give them away or reinstate them, because if he wants to loan them out again it will be necessary to at least extend the contract until 2026, according to the regulations.

Susso Bamba, Dubickas, Rus and Nordstrom expire in 2026, of which only Dubickas is considered an interesting profile. Furthermore, the players purchased from the amateurs Pavanello and Durmusch, for now still the object of desire, expiring in 2027. Finally the issues of Nagy, Lucca, Sibilli, Jureskin and Vignato, all with the right or obligation of redemption. Pisa will certainly sell the first three, while the last two will most likely not be part of the 2024-25 project.
