Weather and bad weather: damage and disasters throughout Lombardy, today’s forecast

Bad weather, Lombardy on its knees: damage and disasters a few steps from Brescia. Although, to be honest, despite the pouring rain and (in some areas) the strong wind, our province was overall spared from the fury of the disturbance. However, various inconveniences were reported: flooding, fallen trees, damage to roads and some homes. For safety reasons, and because they were largely flooded, all the A4 motorway toll booths in the direction of Milan were closed during the day, starting from Ospitaletto and continuing up to Cavenago.

The forecast for Thursday 16 May

The worst seems to be over, but the alert remains high. These are the forecasts for Thursday 16 May from the Lombard Meteorological Center: “The greater mobility of the disturbance will guarantee a decreased risk from a hydraulic and hydrogeological point of view. There is colder air at altitude and greater contrasts: the convective contribution in the strict sense is higher, which translates into lower but occasionally livelier cumulative averages. As regards the expected phenomenology: hail is possible, however small in size (even locally abundant); ventilation reinforcements are locally possible but not such as to cause particular risks, except for the medium-lower central-eastern plains (east of the Oglio) where some slightly more significant storms could pass by the late afternoon”.

Damage and inconvenience throughout Lombardy

We were talking about the disaster in Lombardy. The most affected area is certainly the Milanese area. The Naviglio Martesana overflowed near Bellinzago Lombardo, with concurrent flooding also of the Trobbia and Molgora streams. Among the most affected municipalities in the area: Gessate, Melzo, Gorgonzola, Vignate, Masate and Pioltello. To the east of Milan the Lambro flooded: the Ponte Lambro neighborhood was left without power and water, an emergency camp was set up. Wednesday was defined as the wettest in the last 170 years. New thunderstorms expected in the early afternoon.

Damage and inconvenience also in the province of Mantua. Dozens of firefighters intervened during the day. The southern area was the most affected: flooding and damage in particular in Castel d’Ario, Quistello, Roncoferraro and Suzzara. Between Marmirolo and Roverbella, due to the fury of wind and rain, a building even collapsed: an old barchessa of a country farmhouse. Luckily no one was injured.
