Cableways between safety and future challenges

Maximum safety objective for the winter tourism sector in Trentino, a reality that has 228 facilities for 500 kilometers of slopes offered to snow enthusiasts. A message shared in the event entirely dedicated to aspects of prevention hosted this morning by Trentino Sviluppo in Rovereto in the presence of the provincial councilor for crafts, trade, tourism, forests, hunting and fishing, the vice-president of Trentino Sviluppo, the president of national ANEF Valeria Ghezzi, the provincial president Luca Guadagnini and the manager of the neighboring cableway and common fund service of the Province Silvio Dalmaso. Also present were operators from Alto Adige, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Valle d’Aosta, and professionals from Trentino companies in the sector.
The important and very positive data that emerged during the works, as underlined by the provincial tourism councilor, is that the 2023-2024 winter season ended with no serious reports of disservice on the Trentino facilities. An element that gives particular satisfaction, added the councilor, especially in a period characterized by the growth of presences in winter resorts, and which rewards the efforts in safety and the investments in modernization and maintenance of the systems put in place by the Administration and the entire Trentino winter tourism system.

During the day’s work, the topic of safety was taken stock of the issue of safety with the responsible technicians and service managers of the ski resorts, analyzing the data relating to accidents and disruptions recorded in Trentino and Alto Adige. This was followed by a report on the evacuation tests of the Canazei-Pecol plant in Val di Fassa and that of the “Madonna di Campeggio-Monte Spinale” plant in Val Rendena and an in-depth analysis of the monitoring systems for the cableway sector.
Furthermore, on the safety of the installations, Trentino can boast the LATIF – Technological laboratory for cableway installations, the only company at national level specialized in all types of tests applied on cableway elements, and which in addition to working for the 228 installations in Trentino offers its services to all the plants in the other Italian regions, the provincial councilor further pointed out.
But alongside the topics strictly connected to safety and prevention, the conference also put the spotlight on the future challenges that await the sector, above all that of automation. A scenario which, although in Italy there is still no fully automated ski lift system that works correctly without the presence of operators, in nearby Switzerland and Austria is already a reality to be carefully observed because it will force the entire sector to adapt the regulations and of the structural equipment of the systems, underlined Silvio Dalmaso.
