L’AQUILA – Now in its twentieth edition this year, Saturday 18 May it is replicated European Night of Museumswith extraordinary evening openings at the symbolic cost of 1 euro from 8.00pm to 11.00pm.

The initiative, which is headed by the French Ministry of Culture and benefits from the patronage of the Council of Europe, aims to encourage and promote knowledge of national and European cultural heritage and identity.

The National Museum of Abruzzo participates with the extraordinary evening openings of the two locations, from 8.00 pm to 11.00 pm, last entry at 10.30 pm:

  • MuNDA – via Tancredi da Pentima, in front of the 99 spouts

The Franciscan Hall was temporarily set up with 14 drawings from the donation of a private collector, in memory of Carmela Gaeta, in dialogue with the seven paintings on canvas by Giulio Cesare and Francesco Bedeschini from the MuNDA collections. This will allow the extraordinary maintenance of some works that were displayed in the Hall in anticipation of their future exhibition in the restored spaces of the sixteenth-century Castle. The exhibition is accompanied by 3D tactile prints with descriptions accessible via QrCode and Braille and two videos created on the occasion of the concluded exhibition, “Giulio Cesare and Francesco Bedeschini. Design and invention in L’Aquila in the seventeenth century” from Altair4 Multimedia.

  • The Mammoth at the sixteenth-century castle

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the discovery of the Mammoth, in addition to the documentary exhibition in the East Bastion which retraces the phases of the discovery, with period photos and videos, the recovery and study of the specimen under the direction of Professor Angiola Maria Maccagno, an accompaniment service is provided through training of AFAV staff by Museum officials.

In the European Night of Museums an educational accompaniment to the Mammoth is therefore available to visitors for greater knowledge of an exceptional 1,3000,000 year old protagonist, a very important find of Italian prehistory, among the most complete in Europe.

Reservation required only for groups of more than 20 people at the e-mail address: [email protected]
