The daily hell for Umbrian commuters heading to the capital shows no signs of abating, far from it. It was predictable that the month of construction work along the Orte-Ancona line, with the total block of traffic between Foligno and Terni until June 7, would be problematic, but it is proving to be even more difficult than expected. And there are those who define it as a real “massacre” on the shoulders of workers.

Umbrian commuters towards Rome: another morning of passion. «Full train and excess passengers let off at Orte»

The protests

The week opened with a series of delays and inconveniences that put travelers to the test, especially when returning home. On Monday the 6.02pm train from Rome Termini was diverted onto the slow line, which requires a longer journey of at least 30 minutes, and was then stopped and canceled in Orte, where all the passengers were made to get off and then board the train which left from Rome at 6.31pm, also late. Arrival in Terni 40 minutes late, for the same train, also on Tuesday, when the next train, departing from Rome Termini at 6.31pm, waited in Orte for over 30 minutes, and then arrived in Terni 60 minutes late . «A nice walk for health» comments a commuter ironically, reporting the inconveniences, one of the many among «those who leave home at 5.30 and don’t know when he will return home».

Changes

But the problems persist even in the morning, after the merger (again until June 7) of the 6.48 fast regional train with the 7.00 regional train, departing at 6.57 (rv 4256), which is now highly frequented. And so Trenitalia, following the protests of the Umbrian Commuters Committee, has planned new changes to the timetables starting from Wednesday 15 May. «Following the ongoing monitoring, it emerged that train RV 4256 continues to have a high turnout, especially on some days, for this reason it was decided to reposition the departure from Terni of RV34759 from the current 6.10 am, with arrival in Rome Termini at 7.18 am, postponed departure 6.26 am with arrival in Rome Termini at 7.35 am (intermediate stops Narni 6.32/Orte 6.48)». This solution involves the temporary limitation of the RV4150 train (Rome 5.52 – Terni 6.51) to Orte due to incompatibility with the route of the postponed 34759 (only one track); continuation from Orte to Terni with bus ride; remodulation of the RV34758 timetable by approximately +15′, to ensure the continuation from Foligno towards Ancona of passengers arriving with the PG 650 bus route. Trenitalia recalls that «the ongoing construction site, in addition to the stop to traffic between Foligno and Terni, resulted in a temporary reduced capacity of the line between Terni and Orte (approximately -50%) with temporary unavailability of one track (of the two in normal operation) and lack of a crossing site between Terni and Orte”.
