Webuild opens a factory in Terni to regenerate mechanical moles

MILAN, 14 MAY – Webuild is equipped with a plant in Terni for the assembly and regeneration of machines, which allows the group to reduce investments and operating costs. The new factory represents the last piece of the investment plan in innovation and training, for the creation of quality jobs in the country. The Tbm is an extremely innovative giant mechanical mole that digs into the ground thanks to a milling head, but it is also a mobile factory: during the excavation, it also assembles the linings in parallel, so after the passage the tunnel is in fact already completed. Webuild is starting to have a total fleet of 58 Tbm among those already in operation, in assembly, ordered and to be ordered for the planned projects. At the end of their first use, to be used on another construction site, these machines need to be overhauled and possibly modified and technically updated to meet the needs of the new order, also from a circular economy perspective. From this need was born the idea of the Tbm regeneration factory which started operations in Terni, which deals with overhauling, modifying and updating the Webuild group’s Tbms to allow their reuse in new projects.
