(UNWEB) PERUGIA, – Around 230 students – coming from 10 institutes in Umbria – took part in the third edition of ’s tag each other, a school day dedicated to rugby tag, scheduled at the Pian di Massiano rugby field in Perugia. They were present students of the Itet Capitini Perugia, of the Istituto Superiore Leonardo Da Vinci Umbertide, of the Ispoasc Spoleto, of the Liceo Sportivo of Foligno, of the Polo Liceale Mazzatinti Gubbio and of the comprehensive institutes: Bonfigli of Corciano, of Massa Martana, of Spello, of Bevagna and Cannara.

is an initiative organized by Fir Umbria – Promotion and Participation, in educational collaboration with the USR (Regional School Office) for Umbria – Physical Education Office and with the patronage of Sport and Health Umbria. Rugby tag is a sport characterized by equality and where there is no contact, given that the “tackling” consists of tearing off a flag that the opponent has attached to his waist.

“The goal basically – he declares Francesco Urbaninational manager of grassroots rugby – is to entertain as many kids as possible through our game which is simple, immediate, safe and very suitable for school activities. I feel like truly congratulating the Umbrian Committee that created this project, which can be considered somewhat innovative throughout Italy. It was the first Committee to have identified the tag activity as a useful tool both for the entertainment of children and for the dissemination of rugby culture. Fir Umbria believed in it right from the start and all the children, parents and teachers present in this initiative testify to the validity and goodness of the project that was carried out. We will certainly try to support this type of activity so that it becomes continuous and structural over the years.”

“The numbers are always going up, from edition to edition. It is an activity that is becoming a beautiful tradition and which consolidates the relationship between Fir Umbria and the Regional School Office for Umbria, which supports us in everything together with the regional office of Sport and Health, which from this year has given patronage to this activity. We are becoming a big family between sporting and educational institutions and this gives us enormous pleasure. Within the initiative we have also included a moment of training and awareness-raising for teachers so that rugby is increasingly seen as a community of people, who play, who have fun but who grow by tackling topics different from the usual sporting activity. We are happy that teachers, parents, boys and especially girls like all this.” also states Stefano CardinaliFir promotion and participation coordinator for the Umbria region

“In these years – he finally explains Lorenzo Bertinelliregional coordinator for physical education and sport at the Regional School Office for Umbria – tag rugby is becoming more and more popular among our boys and girls, so much so that on Monday 20 May two of our schools from Umbria will participate in the national finals in Paestum. Tag rugby is an inclusive sport full of coordinative and conditional ideas on which we can work and aim to improve our students. The USR physical education office is carrying out the project with the Fir as, in addition to the recreational-motor proposal for students, it also provides training for motor science teachers and not only in the rugby sports field but also and above all on the value aspects of the fight against bullying and cyberbullying. The close collaboration between Usr and Fir is increasingly bringing new athletes and students closer to this sport which, in addition to aiming to improve the psychophysical and motor skills of our students, also aims to improve and confirm the respect and solidarity between peers that together with collaboration and cooperation have always characterized the world of rugby and that of school sport”.
