“Special TG1″ on May 16th, is preparing to explore the hidden and unpublished beauties of Matera’s underground.
The journalist Patrizia Angelini will lead the Rai television crew in a journey to the heart of the historic center of Matera, a journey through time into hidden caves, a refuge from dangers for the inhabitants, and a treasure chest of wealth and abundance.
The documentary by 60 minutes will explore the fascinating underground caves of MateraSum, the cisterns of San Giorgio, the underground Moom oil mill.
The Rai cameras will immerse themselves in MateraSum, a recently discovered site, where the economic power of the dukes’ family is understood Malvinni Malvezziwhich by modifying the area in question make it suitable for multi-purpose artisan use and storage of foodstuffs, with the presence of a snow house, a warehouse, a stone flour mill.
In MateraFovea, (unpublished site, not yet open to the public) the productive legacy of the city is completed with the presence of old buildings, destroyed in favor of cellars, in which to produce and store wine, but also in the ability of the inhabitants to transform environments from productive to residential.
We will continue delving into the bellies of the cisterns of the San Giorgio hypogea, where rainwater collection becomes the protagonist, to the point of allowing Matera to become part of the UNESCO sites.
Finally we will reach an underground oil mill, perfectly reconstructed, thus closing the circle of the city’s productive activities starting from the underground, understanding the economic attitudes of a people particularly attentive to a modus vivendi, which today we could define as environmental sustainability.
