The podium just missed out on the wings of an exhilarating performance. Fourth place for the Valle d’Aosta Gaia Tormena (in the cover photo and at the awards ceremony) in the 2024 edition of “Porto Sant’Elpidio Cycling Festival”an event reserved for the open category organized by GC All Champions on the roads of the Marche region Porto Sant’Elpidio, in the province of Fermo. The team’s standard bearer Isolmant – Premac – Vittoriafour-time world champion XCE (Cross Country Eliminator) and five times European in the same specialty, she brilliantly faced a particularly tough race, in which only 37 of the 170 athletes lined up at the starting line of a truly challenging 20,150 kilometer circuit, repeated five times with two treacherous dirt roads 300 and 800 meters long. The difficult stretches of ‘white roads’, combined with the great heatto the wind and to overall height difference of 1425 metres they caused great selection, forcing 133 athletes to raise the white flag.
There Tormena, already fourth in the open race in Ponte a Egola in San Miniato (Pisa) in a compact sprint, always ran in the leading positions of the group, demonstrating a lot of grit, determination and excellent pedal stroke, especially in the sectors more complicated than the route. The twenty-one year old athlete, directed in the flagship by the team manager from Bergamo Giovanni Fidanzafourth place was played in the sprint between about twenty athletes arrived behind the three fugitives. A sprint that he literally dominated, achieving fourth place overall.
