Blue Flag, Abruzzo better than Sicily: fifteen flags for the region

Fifteen blue flags will fly over Abruzzo in 2024, the same number as those of Sardinia and one more than Sicily. Today the 236 Italian locations that will benefit from the international recognition of the non-profit organization Foundation for Environmental Education were revealed. The Abruzzo region will have at least one blue flag for each of its four provinces, including municipalities on the Adriatic coast and lakeside locations.

Almost half of the blue flags will fly in your Teramo area, with seven municipalities awarded. The beaches of Martinsicuro, Alba Adriatica and Tortoreto have been awarded the FEE flag. Followed by the seafronts of Giulianova, Roseto degli Abruzzi, Pineto and Silvi. Five blue flags, including one new entry, for the Province of Chieti which sees Francavilla al Mare, Fossacesia, Vasto, San Salvo and Ortona awarded. The latter received recognition this year for Lido Saraceni and Ripari di Giobbe, an increasingly popular tourist destination. A single flag for Pescara, awarded for its coast.

The province of L’Aquila will not have access to the sea but still manages to win two blue flags thanks to its lakes. The banner is now customary for the two awarded municipalities: Villalago and Scanno, for their respective lakeside beaches which have attracted recognition and tourists for years.

Established in 1987 by the non-profit organization Foundation for Environmental Education, the Blue Flag is an international recognition awarded to seaside tourist resorts that meet quality criteria relating to the cleanliness of the beaches, bathing water and the services offered.

The FEE recognition is assigned by distinguishing between beaches and tourist ports with different evaluation criteria, in order to certify the environmental and service qualities based on the needs of those traveling.
