In the month of May the Castelli Romani welcome nine shows as part of the fifth edition of Landscapes of the Body – International Contemporary Dance Festival: on 18 and 19 May they will be at the Teatro Artemisio Gian Maria Volonté in Velletri Kinesis CDC, BTT – Ballet Theater of Turin, DANCEHAUSmore And Camilla Perugini/Antonio Taurino; while from 24th to 26th the Atacama Company And Motus they take turns on the stage of the Civic Theater of Rocca di Papa; And Noemi Piva, Nicholas Baffon/Camilla Perugini and Ersilia Danza at the Artemisio in Velletri.
On May 18th at 9:00 pm, the dancing begins with Trumpetone of the latest productions by Kinesis CDCan award-winning company run by Angelo Egarese. The unequivocal theme of the performance is war, the protagonists being three female soldiers dealing with a military operation, in which the drama takes place which will never abandon the minds of those who have found themselves taking up arms in battle and in danger have seen the own weaknesses.
Following Sistathe work of the historical formation BTT – Ballet Theater of Turinwhich investigates human relationships, focusing on the complicity between two excellent performers, one of whom, Marta Ciappinawinner of Award Ubu as Best actress/performer in 2023. The choreographer Simona Bertozzi creates a duet that recomposes the invisible plot of a sentimental bond, giving shape to dance paintings. On the stage, shared phrasings and solitary actions alternate, two different presences emerge, but both inclined towards the need to find each other.
The day of May 19th will begin at 6.30pm with the team Milanese of DANCEHAUSmore on stage with Bromanticwith choreography by Matteo Bittante. In an era marked by chaos and discord, the play explores antithetical values such as beauty, peace and harmony. Through powerful and moving storytelling, individual bodily fluidity and synchronized movements unravel across barriers of borders, ethnicity and gender.
The evening ends with Welcome* Of Camilla Perugini – Antonio Taurinoa co-production e-Motion Group And Atacama Company. The two young interpreters face a excursus on stereotypes between men and women. Starting from the assumption that a ‘masculine’ and a ‘feminine’ energy coexist in every individual, it is underlined how a unilateral behavioral model is imposed from childhood, aimed at bringing out only the masculine or feminine side.
The meetings will continue on May 24th at 9.00 pm at the Civic Theater of Rocca di Papa, when the multidisciplinary trait that has always characterized the event will be well represented by the meeting of dance with the other arts (poetry, literature and visual arts ) in the presentation of the preview of the new layout of the Atacama Company, Lost Solos, co-produced by the Festival. The choreographers and directors Patrizia Cavola And Iván Truol are inspired by the anomalous migratory route of some solitary birds away from their flock, to reflect on the solitude and diversity that unites the destiny of many human beings.
The evening will continue with Noun Plural edited by Motus, company which in its vast production has obtained important recognition, including two international critics’ awards Teatar fest. Under the guidance of Simona Cieri, the group has always preferred to reserve its gestural language for the discussion of topics of social impact. If the current historical situation seems to envisage the return of demagogic ideologies and the construction of closed societies in many Western countries, on the contrary, culture must be configured as a refined tool capable of combating fear and indicating the right direction towards principles of inclusiveness and welcome.
On May 25th at 9pm we return to the Artemisio Theater with an evening dedicated to the new generations of authors La talentuosa Noemi Piva presents Muàperformance selected for the competition KOMM TANZ ’24. An empty room welcomes two apparently identical yet distinct entities who gradually enter into a relationship with each other. These twin figures are – symbolically – the emanation of two psychic instances within the same subject: the scenic space turns out to be interiority, the choreographic action a process of identification.
The show will continue with the young choreographers and dancers Nicholas Baffoni – Camilla Perugini in Fittingsa work which in its abridged version won the 2nd prize at the international competition Award Rome Dance 2022. The two artists, citing the well-known Indian proverb which urges us not to judge a person before having walked in his shoes, discuss relationships in a game of empathy that literally leads to “embracing” the experiences of others.
The evening of May 26th will be dedicated to children and families, with the show WoodenHead Of Ersilia Danza. The Veronese company led by Laura Corradiunder the direction of Alberto Munarinreinterpret the popular fairy tale of Pinocchio, combining acting with choreographic gestures in a dialogue between dance and literature designed for families and children. The representation updated to our times is placed within the field of “Miracles”, where the Cat and the Fox drag the naive puppet to bury the gold coins in order to grow a money tree; yet the episode will reach an original outcome and the two scoundrels will establish an unprecedented relationship with the wireless puppet.
Landscapes of the Body – International Contemporary Dance Festival is created by the cultural association The ETS Art Box with the contribution of MIC Ministry of Culture, of the Municipality of Albano, in collaboration with FONDARC Foundation for Participation in Art and Culture City of Velletri, in collaboration and with the patronage of Municipality of Velletri he was born in Municipality of Rocca di Papa.
