Sanremo: ‘Serial’ thief arrested by the police

The policemen of the Flying Squad of the Sanremo Commissariat have arrested a thirty-six-year-old Romanian citizen responsible for the crimes of attempted theft, violence and resistance to a public official. The man, after having forced the door of an apartment building in the center of the Matuzian city, reached the basement and entered some cellars after damaging the padlocks on the entrance doors; the officers, who promptly intervened following a call on the “112 NUE” line, heard faint noises coming from a basement and tried to access it, but someone inside resisted, blocking the door.

The intervention of the policemen, who were attacked with a screwdriver

Only after several insistences was the door opened and the man faced the officers holding a screwdriver, pointing it at their address. At this point the police officers ordered the offender to leave the screwdriver, but he reacted by trying to attack one of the officers.

Given the danger of the action and the limited space for maneuver in the place where they found themselves, one of the officers involved was forced to use the TASER gun supplied, neutralizing the suspect. After an initial moment of disorientation, the man recovered and attempted to rush towards the officers again, for which reason it was necessary to reuse the TASER until the subject was completely immobilized and was arrested and accompanied to the offices of the police station in Sanremo for the drafting of the documents.

The Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Imperia Public Prosecutor’s Office was immediately informed of the arrest, and given the dangerousness of the subject, also deriving from his criminal curriculum and the lack of a fixed abode, he ordered that the man be associated with the Prison House of Valle Armea, awaiting validation of the arrest.

In recent months the arrested person had been responsible for an impressive number of crimes against property attributed to him following intense and systematic investigative activity carried out by the Investigation Section of the Sanremo Police Department. In particular, multiple thefts on board a car were attributed to the foreigner, mainly carried out by cutting the window seal, and sometimes resulting in the breaking of the relevant glass. Furthermore, thefts were also detected against numerous commercial establishments in the area
Matuzian city.

Due to the social danger of the EU citizen following a specific request formulated by the Immigration Office of the Police Headquarters, the Prefect of the Province of Imperia issued a Removal Decree and the Police Commissioner of the Province of Imperia ordered that the aforementioned provision be carried out by force public. The subject, at the end of March last, was then promptly traced by State Police personnel, and after the validation hearing at the competent Judicial Authority of Genoa he was accompanied to the Turin air border for subsequent repatriation to the country of origin.

After a few days, however, he returned to Italy and from that moment an escalation of thefts began, particularly against commercial establishments and homes, committed mainly at night, for many of which he had already been reported in a state of freedom to the competent AG. The arrest therefore puts an end to this escalation of crimes.
