Perugia museum system: meeting between the Municipality, union and new manager
After months of waiting, Filcams Cgil of Perugia and the Disputes Office of the provincial Chamber of Labor had a discussion with the Municipality of Perugia and the Le Macchine Celibi cooperative, new contractor of municipal museum services. “First of all – we read in a note from trade union – we tried to understand how it was possible to go from twenty workers in 2023, before the abandonment of Munus, the old service manager, to seven employees in 2024, in the same contract and for the same services. But we have not had an answer to this legitimate question.”
Of course, the Municipality made a cut consistent to investments for museum services, but, according to Filcams Cgil, this cannot justify such a contraction of the workforce. “We don’t want to think that other staff have been hired and currently employed, to replace those entitled to it – continues Filcams Cgil – but we can only ask ourselves how it is possible with so few units to provide a service that is no longer at minimum levels and at reduced hours. ”.
Filcams Cgil of Perugia recalls that service workers, in the various assignments between Munus, CoopCulture and Le Macchine Celibi, have experienced increasing criticality and precarious situations, with unpaid salaries, unpaid severance pay and, finally, dismissals. “We asked whether everything possible was done by the administration municipal in the interests of workers and the service and in compliance with regulations, such as the verify of the regular payment of wages and contributions to workers by Munus, and whether, following the shortcomings, steps have been taken to pay the debts, such as the final deposit. Questions which once again remained unanswered, just as our request to apply the most suitable national collective bargaining agreement for the sector, i.e. Federculture, was also unanswered”.
“We believe that for adequate protection of the service itself and the rights of workers we can only start from the restoration of the situation prior to the renunciation of Munus and therefore recognize the extraordinary and urgent nature of the minimum service – concludes Filcams Cgil of Perugia – and we renew our unchanged willingness to continue the discussion to create paths that respect the value of work and culture.”
