L’Aquila, La Lanterna Magica offers Il Maggio dei Libri

L’AQUILA – In the context of The May of Books 2024the national campaign which aims to underline the social value of books as a key element of personal, cultural and civil growth, the Cinematographic Institute of L’Aquila proposes the initiative Free to dream… with cinema!

Reading aloud is a vehicle for creativity! Cinema allows you to realize fantasy and imagination! A perfect combination to access fantastic worlds, exciting stories and unforgettable characters!

From tomorrowMay 15, and then Monday 20th, readings aloud, screenings and in-depth studies will be the activities proposed to primary and lower secondary schools.

In collaboration with the “Salvatore Tommasi” Regional Library, La Lanterna Magica offers two meetings in the Children’s Room of the “Giovanni Tantillo” Library (Bazzano, L’Aquila) for the first and middle classes of the Navelli Comprehensive Institute. The children will have the opportunity to attend the reading aloud of theOdyssey with the vision on the big screen of the animated film transposition of the Homeric work. Furthermore, they will be led to discover the Seventh Art through a lesson on the history and evolution of cinema with the help of films and audiovisuals. Finally, a guided tour will take them to discover the treasures preserved in the Tommasiana Library.

Furthermore, on the occasion of the anniversary of World Day of Cultural Diversity, Dialogue and Development, next May 21st, the Cinematographic Institute offers the fairy tale in streaming to primary schools Ernest and Celestine by Cèdric Boots which in 2012 became an animated film directed by Stéphane Aubier, Vincent Patar and Benjamin Renner. It is a very touching story on the theme of acceptance between a bear and a little mouse; a wonderful yet unlikely friendship between two apparently incompatible worlds. Two friends who are ready to challenge the status quo to defend each other and teach everyone that the value of friendship goes beyond everything.

The initiative was promoted at school sites thanks to the precious collaboration of the Provincial Education Office of Abruzzo.

With the intervention of Martina Orlando, cinema teacher and film restoreran in-depth study is planned based on the content of the film, the genre and the importance of reflection for future generations through cinematographic language.
