Bisceglie, patents awarded to volunteers of the Nautical Rescue Dog School

On Sunday 12 May, the Bisceglie dock hosted the volunteers of the Odv Nautical Rescue Dog School for the awarding of operational licenses for rescue dog units at sea.

For years now, the training of volunteers has taken place in the Darsena della Bisceglie Approdi with the Circolo della Vela. Founded 13 years ago, the Volunteering and Civil Protection association, chaired by Donato Castellano, is made up of volunteers who provide their work free of charge to the service of less fortunate people: the licenses issued are operational, recognized by the National Society of Genoa and they can be used throughout the national territory.

Yesterday there were 7 pairs who took the patent tests, attempting 7 very demanding exercises, including a test of recovery of a person in danger, evaluation of the state of consciousness, CPR intervention and lateral safety position. Complex exercises which also involved the use of an inflatable boat to better simulate the recovery of the unsafe person.

Five members have obtained this patent and 2 members who have already been operational for a few years have reconfirmed their status as operational members. A team of sea rescue professionals who will also be busy on Sundays in July and August on the beaches of Rosa Marina for next summer. For 8 years the team operated on the Pane e Pomodoro beach in Bari with over 13 people saved. «Our return to Bari seems far away – comments President Castellano – due to the now inexplicable silence of the Municipal Administration for years».

On Sunday 19th, again in Bisceglie in collaboration with the National Salvamento company of Barletta, there will be an Open Day, an evaluation day of the new pairs to be included in the team for next year. On May 26th, however, assistance at sea in Polignano for a Triathlon race and then the long, hot summer begins. Also planned are demonstrations of activities with disabled people, Pet Therapy thanks to the 3 professional figures certified for this activity, members of the SCSN, Lucia Lafaenza, Patrizia Castellano and Antonella Vitale, and then the summer project, the initiative «Discovering Lifeguard Dogs, Summer 2024 – Children, dogs and the sea… friendship, knowledge and respect».
