From 18 May to 29 June the Palatine Chapel of the Royal Palace of Caserta will host the Mozart Spring.

The program includes concerts by the Caserta Chamber Orchestra, directed by Antonino Cascio, with the participation of two “rising stars” in their regional debut: Simon Zhu / Paganini Prize 2023 and Hyun Jung Song / International Oboe Competition of Japan Prize in Tokyo and in residence at the Academy of the Berliner Philarmoniker, as well as recitals and ensemble concerts of the Orchestra.

On Saturday 18 May at 8.00 pm, in conjunction with the European Night of Museums, the Orchestra and Simon Zhu will perform some of Mozart’s most beautiful works in the Palatine Chapel of the Royal Palace of Caserta: Concerto No. 5 for violin and orchestra KV 219 “Turkisch”, the Symphony n.36 KV 425 “Linz” and the sparkling Divertimento n.1 KV 136.

Simon Zhu, a German violinist of Chinese origins, came to international attention with his victory in 2023 with the Paganini Prize; this is also thanks to the rich book of prize concerts (including those with the Chamber Orchestra of Caserta) offered by the major musical institutions: at a national level the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Fenice in Venice, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and others .

The Mozart Spring at the Reggia Vanvitelliana will continue on Saturday 25 May with the Caserta Chamber Orchestra and Hyun Jung Son and on the last three Saturdays of June with the Orchestra’s ensembles. The program includes chamber transcriptions of symphonic pieces – a very widespread practice at the time, for a domestic dimension of “making music” -, entertainment for the Harmonie Ensemble and concerts by Neapolitan authors of Mozart’s era.

From the Royal Palace of Caserta the Mozart Spring will spread “in Terra Laboris… on the path of Mozart”: Aversa, Capua, Teano and Sessa Aurunca… an ideal revival of Mozart’s presence in Terra di Lavoro in May 1770.

In this context, on Sunday 19 and 26 May at 10.45 am the Orchestra will repeat the concerts with Simon Zhu and Hyun Jung Song at the Church of S. Domenico in Capua, while the Ensembles of the Orchestra will be present in Sessa Aurunca – Church of Immaculate, Friday 14 June at 8pm -, in Aversa – churches of the SS. Trinità and S. Agostino, Friday 21st and 28th June at 8.00pm – and in Teano – Archaeological Museum, Sunday 16th, 23rd and 30th June at 11.30am -.

The “Mozart Spring” is completed by Simon Zhu’s recitals – Aversa / Church of S. Francesco, Friday 17 May at 8.00 pm, Preview of the review aimed at raising funds for the restoration of the baroque organ kept there -, by Hyun Jung Song – Aversa / Church of S. Antonio, Friday 24 June at 8pm – and of the mandolinist Raffaele Esposito / Prize of the Arts 2023 – Capua / Church of S. Salvatore a Corte, Saturday 22 June at 8.00pm, as part of the initiative of the Italian Touring Club – Capua section “Open for you under the stars”.

Furthermore, Simon Zhu and Hyun Jung Song will hold two lessons – concert and masterclass for the students of the musical middle school of Caiazzo and the Musical High School of Vairano Patenora.

The Primavera Mozartiana is carried out as part of the initiatives supported by the MIC – General Directorate of Entertainment and the Campania Region and makes use of the collaboration of the Regional Museums Directorate of Campania, the Royal Palace of Caserta and various cultural associations in the area, including the Association Mozart Italia – headquarters of Sessa Aurunca -, the Diocese of Aversa, the Caserta Unesco Club, the Friends of the Royal Palace of Caserta and the Archconfraternities of the SS. Rosary of Capua and of the Immaculate of Aversa and of Sessa Aurunca and of the Touring Club Italia – headquarters of the Capua

The concerts at the Palatine Chapel of the Royal Palace of Caserta are included in the ordinary cost of the entrance ticket or subscription to the Site while seats last, while those in the Province are free to enter.
