The first electronic fish auction at the fish market in the port of Corigliano-Rossano was a success
An experience appreciated by all operators, who have abandoned “vocal” trading to switch to the reverse auction sales method. The system was perceived as very intuitive, thanks also to the use of e-Fish Smart Devices, and certainly competitive as well as transparent from a commercial point of view.
The first demonstration session of the new electronic automation of the auction room, financed from resources of the PO EMFF 2014/2020 managed by the Calabria Region, was held last Thursday 10 May.
The activity was organized within the European Urban Initiative Program which allowed the exchange of good practices between the Greek city of Piraeus and the city of Corigliano Rossano (City-to-City Exchange Call).
The demonstration session was attended by Michail Bourmpos and Leni Anezyri, respectively Director of the ICT Department and Head of the Department for Integrated Territorial Investments of the Municipality of Piraeus (Greece), and, for the Municipality of Corigliano Rossano, the mayor Flavio Stasi, the deputy mayor Maria Salimbeni, the Manager Giovanni Soda, the RUP Giuseppe De Caro and the officials of the Planning Department, which conceived and implemented the intervention.
The advantages derived from the intervention carried out are evident, thanks to the use of advanced technologies, in fact, the entire auction process of fish products is modernized and evolved exponentially, producing multiple advantages linked to traceability, transparency and above all valorization of the local product; therefore, benefits for all interested parties (stakeholders). The first automated auction session was set up for the sale of a single case of product per fish species, but the new system also allows for a multiple session of selling the cases, and this possibility allows us to interface exactly with the needs of the fish market via of the considerable quantities of product of some species compared to others. the innovative management software includes the direct issuing of labelling, transport documents and invoicing, thus bringing significant accounting simplification, speed and transparency, to protect all market operators. The E-Fish system also includes modules for remote auction participation and therefore the next frontier for the online telematic auction fish market.
The transition to the new system will be implemented gradually in order not to interrupt the usual marketing of the products. The new system developed makes it possible to restore working dignity to the fishermen, who can, through the selection of the product, “achieve” higher prices and right, which allow them to better deal with the management costs of their business, which are increasingly higher also due to expensive fuel; Equal satisfaction was recorded by smaller buyers (fishmongers, restaurateurs, etc.) who in the past often had to make do with the residual part of the auctions; but the enthusiasm for the new system was collective among all the various buyers.
The level of the Corigliano-Rossano Fish Market actually rises, and the improvement in organizational performance leads to greater prestige, visibility and attraction of new customers.
The Commissioner of the fish market, Dr. Tonino Fusaro, also said he was satisfied and highlighted a further positive aspect of the project financed by the PO EMFF 2014/2020 and implemented by the Municipality of Corigliano Rossano: the photovoltaic system created is the use of the new ice-making machine, allow us to reduce energy costs by over 10,000 euros per year, significantly helping Meris SC to achieve financial equilibrium.
