Pulmì arrives in the province of Ragusa, on-call collective transport for the first time in Sicily

Pulmì, an innovative transport system, will launch soon which intends to reduce the geographical and social isolation of the mountain community of the Iblean territory (Monterosso Almo, Giarratana and Chiaramonte Gulfi) and promote and spread the culture of sustainable mobility. For Sicily this is an absolute novelty. In fact, a collective on-demand transport service will be launched which will integrate the local public transport services and, in particular, the connections between the mountain municipalities and Ragusa and, through Ragusa, with every other destination.

It will be sufficient to sign up to the Community via the website www.pulmi.it or the call center, to start entering the world of Pulmì. Through the app or a phone call you can customize your itinerary, agreeing days, times and destinations. In fact, the public transport model which offers users trips only at the times and itineraries provided by the transport companies is overturned. So, instead, it is the person who offers the service who adapts his offer to the users’ requests. The 30 stops, strategically identified among the municipalitiesthey also allow you to reduce the environmental impact, to share the journey with the local community, reaching many places of interest. Transport will be guaranteed with two nine-seater minivans with platforms to facilitate access for people with disabilities. Particular attention will be paid to the most fragile and vulnerable segments of the population and easily subject to isolation and marginalization (disabled and elderly people, but also young people and foreigners). Anyone who wants to move between the mountain community and Ragusa will be able to be part of the Community and benefit from the service, in particular women (often penalized when traveling) and commuter workers.

«Pulmì – explain the project managers – is an innovative, ecological community transport service never seen before in Sicily. Pulmì is not only an alternative way to move between municipalities in a dynamic and sustainable way, but it is a service that is modeled on collective needs. Pulmì coincides with its community of users. Choosing to be part of the Pulmì Community means traveling together with other people and contributing to the improvement of the service. You can use Pulmì to get to work, to play sports, to take care of hobbies and passions and much more.”

To encourage the use of Pulmì, mobility vouchers and additional reward tools are envisaged to encourage sustainable behavior, especially among younger groups. Promotional and educational activities are also underway to spread the culture of sustainable mobility, involving the social fabric, public bodies and the business world.

The Pulmì project, which relies on the support of Fondazione Con il Sud, was promoted by Svimed, L’Argent and Fondazione San Giovanni Battista with the partnership of some municipalities in the province of Ragusa (Ragusa, Modica, Comiso, Ispica, Pozzallo, Giarratana, Chiaramonte Gulfi, Scicli, Monterosso Almo, Santa Croce Camerina) and the provincial consortium of municipalities, Terra Barocca local action group, Antica Ibla natural shopping centre, Applied Research Center for Development, Federsanità, Anci Sicilia, Futuring.

Until September, the Pulmì service will be in the testing phase to understand travel needs and optimize the offer: the contribution of all users is needed, who will be able to forward comments and suggestions by filling out the questionnaires also available on the website www. .pulmì.it. By joining the community, you will get first bonuses and free trips to build our community transport service together.

Pulmì is also on social media
