The Bathing protection plan is moving towards reaching a new goal. In fact, sampling of the waters belonging to the Viserbella basin (Turkey) has begun in recent days., affected in recent months by works to separate the networks and which by the beginning of the summer will become the seventh discharge into the sea on the Rimini coast to be transformed into a rainwater spillway only. Once the final works have been completed and the investigations on the water have been completed, it will then be possible to proceed with the declassification of the discharge, thus overcoming the bathing bans in that stretch of sea too.

With the ‘Viserbella’ the number of basins transformed on the 8 drains which provide for the separation of the sewerage networks will therefore rise to 7. Only the Brancona basin is missing, between Viserbella and Torre Pedrera, which will be completed next year. Added to this is the full functionality of the Piazzale Kennedy facility which has canceled the bathing bans in the corresponding stretch of sea.

The program of actions implemented by the Municipality of Rimini, Hera Group, Amir and Romagna Acque is therefore advancing, which intervenes on the purification sewerage system, to overcome the critical issues linked to the bathing ability of the coast and to strengthen the hydraulic safety of the area.

To complete the picture and achieve the absence of bathing bans on all twelve spillways on the Rimini coast, a further piece is needed: the construction of two new hydraulic structures in southern Rimini, between Bellariva and Rivazzurra, which will also allow Colonnella 1, Colonnella 2 and Rodella to be transformed into rainwater-only spillways. The project involves the construction of a lamination and first rainfall tank at the Colonnella 2 pit (piazzale Arturo Toscanini) and a lamination tank at the Rodella pit (Artemisia Gardens): works which will come into full swing next autumn and which were preceded by some preparatory interventions for the construction site (movement of underground services) currently underway and which will be completed by the end of this month. However, Hera will soon complete the procedures for the definitive assignment of the executive design and execution of the works to the entity identified through the tender closed last February.

The intervention has strategic importance for multiple reasons: it will allow hydraulic safety to be increased through two impressive accumulation tanks, it will contribute to overcoming bathing bans and last but not least it will be the driving force behind a redevelopment of the entire area. Under the pools at the end of Viale Firenze and near the Artemisia Gardens, two viewpoints will be created, following the example of what has already been created in Piazzale Kennedy. Two new views of the sea which will be designed and built in harmony with the public works of the Parco del Mare.
