Latina, elderly man stabs his wife during an argument then tries to take his own life: very serious

An 88-year-old man stabbed his 75-year-old wife and then tried to take her own life. It happened this afternoon in a house in via Roio, on Migliara 40, in the Pantano d’inferno area, in the municipality of Sermoneta, on the border with Latina: two air ambulances landed and transported them both to the Gemelli and San Camillo hospitals in Rome in very serious conditions.

According to what emerged from the first investigations carried out by the police, at the end of an argument for trivial reasons Franco Maria long-retired electrician and struggling with problems related to his advanced age, stabbed his wife six times in the shoulder Poldina Pontesilli and, shortly afterwards, he tried to kill himself by stabbing himself three times at the base of the throat. An attempted murder and attempted suicide committed inside the kitchen of the couple’s home. Fortunately, the woman had the strength to ask for help, calling the emergency number and summarily reporting what had happened to the investigators. In addition to the medical staff of 118, the carabinieri from the Sermoneta station, the territorial Norm of Aprilia and a patrol from the Norma station intervened on site, together with the men of the national carabinieri association of the Sermoneta section. The hospitalized elderly man is currently under arrest, under suspicion of attempted murder, and the Latina Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to shed full light on the matter.
