The first edition of the Planetaria – Discorsi con la Terra festival kicks off from 7 to 9 June at the Teatro della Pergola in Florence. Created by Stefano Accorsi and Filippo Gentili with the production of Superhumans and the Fondazione Teatro della Toscana Planetaria, it is explained, it is a “format to disseminate the environment, climate change and sustainability by combining art, entertainment and science”. Scientific partner is the University of Milan-Bicocca, Innovation partner Engineering.

Stefano Accorsi is also the artistic director of the festival: alongside him as scientific director is Claudia Pasquero, professor at the University of Milan Bicocca. Scientific consultants Stefano Mancuso and Giulio Boccaletti. Accompanying them will then be Sibilla, the artificial intelligence created specifically for the Planetarium by Engineering: “It will dialogue in real time with artists, scientists and the public in the room during the three evening shows, the so-called Imaginary Conferences, in which the story will be told of how we arrived, in an imaginary future, to solve the environmental problem”.

Planetaria is proposed as “a three-day long journey, intended for transversal audiences”. The morning will be reserved for families with the Kids lab & shows section where scientific and experiential activities, theatrical performances and shows will alternate. In the afternoon with the Planetaria talks conceived together with Will, “together with illustrious guests from the scientific world we will search for new words for our future, new hopes and new ways of communicating and becoming active. In the evening the stage will come alive with theatrical performances that combine art and science”, or the Imaginary Conferences, original theatrical works that retrace the problems and solutions of the climate crisis in a compelling way. Participation is free upon reservation. In collaboration with Treedom, a partner for sustainability, trees will be planted to help absorb Planetaria’s CO₂ emissions. “The idea of Planetaria was born from the belief that theatre, as a place of empathy and imagination, is a perfect tool to raise people’s awareness of the climate crisis of today. Moving away from a certain cold and apocalyptic dissemination, theater picks up the alarm of the best science, pushes us to imagine a sustainable future and invites us to build it together”, explains Accorsi.
