Next week: Italy will be split in two: on one side thunderstorms, even violent ones and with the risk of hail, on the other a first African blaze capable of causing temperatures to soar well above 30°C.
The cause of these sudden extreme changes is to be found in the large hemispheric-scale movements that will take place on the Old Continent, called in technical terms “meridian exchanges“: cold air descends towards the mid-latitudes from Northern Europe/Atlantic, cooling them, while warm subtropical African air rises towards the continent.
According to the latest updates from the European Center, already in start of the week a deep depression, driven by Atlantic currents, it will rapidly cross central-northern Europe, to then dive into the Mediterranean basin directly from Rhone Gate.
As often happens with this kind of configuration, the entry of cold currents onto our seas will favor the formation of a cyclone intended to provoke rains and thunderstorms in the North, particularly during the days of Tuesday 14th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th May. Due to the impetuous entry of cold air at high altitude, extreme phenomena at a local level cannot be ruled out, such as storms and hailstormsgiven the strong contrasts that will be created in our country.
Italy will therefore find itself again split in two on the weather front: the North will suffer yet another strong wave of bad weather, while the South will experience fully summer days.
