The Committee for Stumbling Stones of Florence announces that by June it is possible to indicate the desire to place a stumbling block in memory of a person deported from Florence or of Florence was also deported from other placeswho found the

death (only the deceased are considered, not the survivors) in Nazi-fascist internment, concentration and extermination camps. The Stumbling Stones were born from a project by the artist Berliner Gunter Demnig, and it is necessary to give notice in time for installation in January 2025, within a limited number set by the artist himself.

Whoever makes the proposal must undertake to cover the costs relating to the production of the stumbling blocks he requests. Each proposal must be sent to Committee ([email protected]), in electronic form, with a biographical profile as complete as possible and accompanied, where possible, by adequate documentation.

The form must include: Name and surname (for women, both the maiden and married surname).

Date and place of birth, date and place of arrest, place of deportation (e.g. Auschwitz or Mauthausen), date and place of death.

Exact address chosen for the laying of the Stone and its reasons (home and/or place of arrest). Indication of any existing family members/descendants and their contact details. A brief description of the person’s activity, with citation of the sources to refer to. Any other available information that may be useful to preserve the memory of the person to whom the Stone will be named.

The Presidential Council of the Committee for Stumbling Stones prepares a procedure for each naming proposal received. The Committee entrusts the Scientific Committee

consultative the verification of each practice. Based on the results of this activity, the Committee compiles a priority ranking for the titles in such a way as to take into account the necessary balance between the various types of deportation and internment from Italy (“racial” deportation, political deportation, military internment) .

Depending on the schedule, or where more detailed historical research is required, the deposition may also be envisaged in a year following January 2025. The request must be sent to: [email protected].
