On the occasion of the Open Day on 12 May, the Reggio Calabria Section of the Italian Naval League (LNI) wishes to highlight the important role of Sports Groups. These groups have the objective of promoting amateur and educational sporting activity, especially among young people, in compliance with the rules and regulations of the sporting system. Their activity is fundamental to guarantee the practice of sport in an environment of mutual understanding, friendship, solidarity and fair play, thus contributing to building a better world through sport.

**Freediving: A Sport of the Future**

During the Open Day, at **5.30pm**, there will be a special focus on freediving, considered the underwater sport of the future. Freediving is a discipline that is constantly evolving technically and growing in popularity. In Italy, specializations such as dynamics with equipment, dynamics without equipment, statics and jump blue are practiced both in swimming pools and in the sea and lake. Italy is a leading nation in the sport, with the national team having won numerous European and CMAS World titles and athletes having set countless records.

**Santo Campolo and the Apnea Academy**

Santo Campolo, instructor of the Apnea Academy and President of the “Team meno 30” Association, will give a talk on freediving as a sport and as an experience of immersion in oneself and in the underwater environment. He will illustrate how freediving takes us back to our origins as marine mammals and how to practice it safely. Freediving, once seen as an extreme activity, is now a sport accessible to all, offering benefits such as relaxation, harmony with the environment, and improved self-control and self-esteem.

**A Memorandum of Understanding**

On the occasion of the Open Day, a memorandum of understanding will be signed between the Apnea Academy and the Lega Navale Section of Reggio Calabria. This event underlines the LNI’s commitment to promoting sports disciplines that enhance the mind-body connection and harmony with nature.

The evening will be enriched by photos, films and other materials that illustrate the beauty and depth of freediving as a sporting discipline and as a lifestyle.

For those who wish to have a direct experience, there is the possibility of taking part in educational sailing trips on the Strait of Messina, on board our sailing boat, upon reservation.
