They were named in memory by Elisa Claps The Wide in front of the church of the Holy Trinity and the White Flower Park in Potenza.
The young woman disappeared on 12 September 1993 in Potenza and her body was found after 17 years, in March 2010, in the attic of the church where she was last seen alive.
Several people first met at the public park in the Macchia Romana district, already renamed Elisa Claps Park, which from today will bear the name of the title of the song of the Rai 1 drama which retraced the tragic story. The ceremony was enlivened by a musical interlude by the singer Giusi Telesca and the pianist Paola Cammarota.
Then a procession from via Mazzini, near the Claps house, he moved to the church of the Santissima Trinità where the other ceremony was held and the “Largo Chiesa Santissima Trinità” was renamed “Largo Elisa Claps”. This was followed by the reading of the names of the missing people and the stories that still await truth and justice.
“This is the completion of a tiring and painful journey that this city has done together with us – underlines Gildo Claps – There has been a lot of solidarity and closeness that has been expressed especially in recent months. I believe that this city has finally managed to come to terms with this history and has become aware of what has happened in recent years. The dark side of the city that has often worked against and that has been was also understood silenced. The name change has taken on a beautiful meaning because a part of Elisa will remain here in the greenery and another part we will accompany her to the city center where she deserves to be remembered, especially in what was ‘Largo della Santissima Trinità’ which she made by left background to this story and over which so many shadows weigh. It is a bright path that we are following because from the darkness of that attic we have all brought Elisa back to the light together.”
The municipal administration of Potenza was present with the mayor Mario Guarente, Penelope ItalyThe Free Potenza Garrison “Elisa Claps and Francesco Tammone” and various associations.
“Today is an extraordinary day for our city because with a plaque the memory is sealed not only of Elisa but of the many battles that her family has had to face in recent years in the search for the truth but also in support of many people who have disappeared in Italy for who have done an enormous amount of work. I am happy to share this moment with Gildo, mother Filomena and Luciano” comments the mayor.
“It’s a great emotion – declares mother Filomena – It is the most beautiful day for my family and for Elisa. He got the dignity he deserved. Today she is free and she will be able to fly in the sky. I have never crossed this stretch of road again and perhaps today I will start doing so again little by little because there is that plaque. Thanks to the entire municipal administration and to all those who carried out this initiative.”
