“Fortunately, the drought has hit the South and Sicily in particular.” During a question time in the Chamber of Deputies, responding to the Northern League senator Giorgio Maria Bergesio, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Francesco Lollobrigida, pronounced this, to be precise: “Fortunately, this year the drought has hit some areas of the South and Sicily in particular. And luckily the areas from which you come are much less so, but which produce an exceptionally high value of wine” (Open source). Hence the anger of the Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement towards the exponent of the Brothers of Italy.
Anthony Barbagallo, regional secretary of the Democratic Party, underlines: “There is no room for interpretation, these are very serious words from a minister who should represent the agricultural and food sector of the entire country! But the most striking thing, even if with little surprise, is the deafening silence of all the Sicilian representatives of Lollobrigida’s own political party. Parties built on the sole man (or woman) in command destroy the autonomy of parliamentarians and their freedom to represent the needs of their voters and territories. We await Minister Lollobrigida’s apologies and distancing from the brothers Sicilians”.
“The South is not of interest to the Meloni government”
In turn, this is what Antonio De Luca, Cinquestelle group leader at the Sicilian Regional Assembly, expressed himself: “Will a few million euros arrive from Rome to deal with the terrible drought emergency? No wonder, the Meloni government of Sicily doesn’t care about anything at all and the words of the Fratelli d’Italia minister Lollobrigida, Meloni’s brother-in-law, testify to this unequivocally. Hearing a minister of the Republic say that, fortunately, the drought has hit the South and Sicily in particular, is shameful and unacceptable. It is yet another proof that as long as this executive is standing, there will be no hope for the South and I dare not imagine what would happen if they approved the differentiated autonomy so dear to the League and Meloni”.
“From Schifani and the Sicilian colleagues of Fratelli d’Italia – concludes Antonio De Luca – we expect a serious stance with their Roman friends. Let them put away their party uniform for once and make themselves heard, possibly without their hats in their hands. And in Lollobrigida they tell them to stop the language instead of the trains.”
