Operations implemented in the Emilia-Romagna region to combat illicit trafficking of cultural goods. Judicial police activities made it possible to recover and seize 888 antiquarian, archival and book assets. In particular, an oil on panel painting, measuring 83.5 x 82 centimetres, depicting ‘St. Rocco, St. Stephen and St. James with the two donors’.

The work, attributed to a sixteenth-century Flemish author, was identified for sale following preventive checks carried out on digital platforms and was found to be partial proceeds of the theft perpetrated in the church of Jonars Pontchartrin in Yvelines, France, in July 1981 The work was listed among the art assets to be searched within the database of the General Secretariat of Interpol.
