Turin, from Schuurs to Djidji: the point from the infirmary

The news from the Torino infirmary: here’s how the injured players are doing ahead of the last 3 matches

Turin preparing to face the last 3 championship matches. For Europe, 9th place could be enough, which is 3 points away, while 8th is 4 points away. The problem is that Torino hasn’t won for more than a month and hasn’t scored in 4 games: only 31 goals in 35 games. Injuries have affected a good part of Torino’s season. The most serious, hands down, was that of Perr Schuurs. He tore his cruciate against Inter in the first leg and from then on he missed 31 matches. He could be back in the squad towards the beginning of June, but he won’t be risked. On the pitch, if he is not sold, we will see him next season. And how are the others?

Djidji, Gineitis and Sazonov

Sazonov he missed 3 games due to tendon problems, but everything seems to be ok now. Against Verona, he can return to the squad. Vlasic however, after coming off injured against Bologna after just 28 minutes of play, he finished the season. The season of Djidji, after renewing for a year, was a nightmare. The two operations, including the first one that failed, did not help. It started halfway through, after Christmas, but from 8 March onwards he was no longer called up. For him a muscular problem: it is not known when he will return to the field, but the contract is about to expire and a renewal is unlikely. Finally there is Gineitis. He had finally established himself in Serie A as a starter, but on 3 April he injured his knee. For him the season seems to be over. Such a pity.

Juric’s only regret

Before Empoli-Turin, Juric had said: “There are no regrets other than the injuries: you can’t do anything, captain. But it’s a regret.” Nothing to dispute, that’s how it is. However, it is also true that Schuurs and Djidji were two starters in defense, but the defense was (even without them) the only department that always worked well. Starting from the friendlies in Pinzolo it was already clear: the team was struggling to score. A problem that, over the course of an entire season, was never resolved.

Adrien Tameze, Gvidas Gineitis and Antonio Sanabria of Torino FC look dejected at the end of the Serie A football match between Juventus FC and Torino FC.
