A new directive to the heads of the police forces and to the commanders of the local and provincial police forces has been issued by the prefect of Ravenna Castrese De Rosa, to intensify control and surveillance activities on the provincial territory in view of the upcoming summer season and the notable influx of tourists and holidaymakers who usually flock to the Ravenna coast.
Following the analysis – within the provincial public order and safety committee – of the results obtained in 2023, which recorded a significant reduction in the accident rate (-31.7% of deaths and -7.68% of accidents with deaths and injured), the head of the prefecture recalled the need for greater coordination of territorial control planning services through the involvement of all the police forces, local and provincial police forces and summer reinforcements, which will be made available for the Beach resorts.
When preparing the services, the different characteristics of road traffic must be taken into account, particularly in the summer season, and the structural conditions of the arteries where the greatest dangers have been highlighted, also taking into account the volumes of traffic and the places where it is most frequent mobility on the occasion of demonstrations and events linked to “nightlife” or the presence of discos.
«The need – declared Castrese De Rosa – is to guarantee increasingly effective territorial coordination between police forces with general jurisdiction and local police forces to avoid the simultaneous carrying out of multiple surveys on the same sections of road, dividing the territory into zones and attributing operational coordination to that force that is locally present, also reporting to the Observatory in the Prefecture the critical issues that are detected with the aim of improving operational strategies”.
On the basis of the activity carried out by the observatory, the report has been updated in which the most significant critical issues of the road arteries are identified, taking into account the confirmed accidents and the structural deficiencies of the arteries on which it has been recalled, with a specific act of direction, the attention of mayors and other bodies that own the roads in planning and carrying out interventions to improve road traffic and to make the critical points where accidents are more numerous more safe.
It will be a small group within the Observatory that will verify those road sections where the installation of speed control devices to contain road accidents has been deemed appropriate by local police commands.
