Viterbo – Death of little Davide Ciuffreda, convicted truck driver from Bagnoregio

The driver of the vehicle that hit the camper was sentenced to 3 years and 8 months in prison

VITERBO – First degree sentence for the tragic accident that occurred on January 3, 2018, in which a ten-year-old boy named Davide Ciuffreda he lost his life in a collision between a truck and a camper on the highway.

The driver of the truck, a 69-year-old man from Bagnoregio, was sentenced to 3 years and 8 months in prison in the first degree for murder and road injuries against the child’s mother, who was seriously injured in the accident. Her mother remained hospitalized for a long period at the Belcolle hospital.

During the trial, the prosecution had requested a shorter sentence, while the parents’ civil lawyer requested significant financial compensation for the damages suffered by the family. The defense sought acquittal, highlighting alleged gaps in the investigation and criticizing the technical approach used.

The accident occurred while the family was returning to Albinea, in Emilia Romagna, after the Christmas holidays spent in Tuscia. The child was with his mother inside the camper, stopped on the side of the road due to a breakdown that his father was trying to repair. The truck, coming from behind, violently hit the camper, causing the death of the child.

The child’s parents were represented by a lawyer from the Reggio Emilia Bar, while the driver of the truck was defended by other lawyers.

The conviction of the lorry driver has brought some relief to the parents, although nothing can bring back the loss of their only child.
