“The owners of land, as well as the managers of construction and road sites and tourist, artisanal and commercial structures, must proceed with cleaning and maintenance interventions by May 31st and, subsequently, whenever necessary, until October 31st. These are interventions of fundamental importance to eliminate the causes that could trigger fires and therefore create serious dangerous situations.” This is what the mayor says Seventh Nizzi regarding the ordinance adopted this morning.

Specifically, the interventions must include: mowing of grass, trimming of hedges, cutting of plants, branches, hay, brushwood and uncultivated vegetation and mowing of all dry vegetation even in cultivated areas; maintenancecleaning and draining, with possible reshaping works, of the ditches and drainage channels and ditches, so as to facilitate the regular flow of rainwater and their entry into the main drains.

The owners of cultivated lands or kept in pasture adjacent to railway lines, must keep them free from sheaves of wheat, dry grasses and any other combustible material, up to 20 meters from the railway border. The ordinance also provides that stubble and crop residues can be burned exclusively following authorization from the Forestry and Environmental Supervision Corps, according to the terms and methods established by the regional fire prevention regulations.
