The XXII edition of “Le piazze dei Sapori”, the event promoted by Confesercenti Verona, was inaugurated last night. Present at the ribbon cutting were the Italian member of the European Parliament Sergio Berlato, the regional councilor Elena Donazzan, the President of the Province of Verona Flavio Pasini, the councilor of the municipality of Verona Italo Sandrini and the mayor of Casina, Stefano Tosti, the president of Confesercenti Verona Paolo Bissoli, the director Alessandro Torluccio together with some members of the board. Also present were the honorable Marco Padovani, Maddalena Morgante, Flavio Tosi and the regional councilors Daniele Polato, Alberto Bozza, Stefano Valdegamberi.

“I bring the greetings of the European Parliament to the city of Verona which hosts the splendid Le Piazze dei Sapori event promoted by Confesercenti Verona, with the aim of valorising Italian excellence – highlighted Berlato, Italian member of the European Parliament. – Particular praise must be given to all the producers who have been able to invest in the quality, uniqueness and healthiness of their products, strong points for competing on international markets”.

Following the words of Elena Donazzan, the councilor for education, training and work of the Veneto region: “An opportunity to promote the excellence of Made in Italy in the agri-food and food and wine fields. Areas in which our young people can find excellent job opportunities to intercept with an increasingly solid preparation, also thanks to the new Made in Italy high school!”.

“With this event, Verona becomes a national and international showcase of some of the most appreciated Italian agri-food excellence, remembering that our country has over 800 designations of origin – highlighted the President of the Province, Flavio Pasini. – Italy, in this area, is first in Europe and Veneto is absolutely one of the regions that boasts a greater number of denominations. Numbers and records that make The Flavor Squares even more important. An event, of certain interest for the citizens of Verona and for tourists, increasingly oriented towards discovering the geography of Italian and European taste and an event, at the same time, which could be a place for discussion between the producers present”.

“Until Sunday, visitors will find the typical products and the most sought-after food and wine productions in Italy. Piazza Bra hosts carefully selected exhibitors and retailers, who represent the flavor of all the Italian regions – recalled the President of Confesercenti Verona, Paolo Bissoli. – Dop, Docg, Doc products, but also particularities unknown to the general public which thus reawaken forgotten tastes. For the third consecutive year, Via Roma also takes on colour. A space dedicated with the heart to solidarity and social issues, a space where non-profit associations, which operate in the social sector, have the opportunity to tell their story and bring new people and volunteers together. The event wants to be for everyone, without any distinction. Entrance is free and there are many activities planned for adults and children.”

“In addition to the great return of European exhibitors, with Spain the protagonist of this edition with churros and sangria, space for the promotion of Veroneseness – continued director Torluccio. – A dedicated section has been included in the official brochure, containing the indication, also geolocalized, of the restaurants that have been awarded the RISTORANTE TIPICO VERONA plaque and will offer a themed menu for the event. Inside it, there are the 269 HISTORIC SHOPS of Verona, to enhance all the excellence and activities that keep the culture and traditions of the city high. Great news is the Teatro Ghiotto Lounge, which will host show-cooking and thematic activities dedicated to food”.

Greetings also arrived from President Luca Zaia, who recalled in a note: “Food and wine constitutes the vibrant soul of a specific territory. Behind every product there are centuries-old stories, written thanks to the passion and determination of entire generations. Promoting the place means returning to the ancient flavors and smells so dear and familiar to our grandparents; at the same time, it helps to support the entire supply chain and last but not least the environment”.

After the usual ribbon cutting, in the presence of the vice president of Parmiggiano Reggiano Guglielmo Garagnani, a 60-month matured cheese was opened for the occasion, the result of the work of the mountain’s master craftsmen.

The guests moved inside the brand new Teatro Ghiotto Lounge. Thanks to the partnership born between Parmiggiano Reggiano and Recioto della Valpolicella, cheese, oil-based appetizers, cotechino with pearà curated by Massimo Lovato of Pearà on the road, accompanied by Recioto della Valpolicella.

Data and numbers: Over twenty years of success, which saw more than 2,470,000 visitors, 1,668 companies involved, 1,100 students involved in the Teatro Ghiotto project, 760 taste workshops, 2 fashion shows, 700 musical and cultural shows, 19 projects developed for tourism, production and cultural promotion. Development of B to B in Italy and abroad and B 10 to C in local areas, 118 million euros of related activities in the Verona area. An event that brings important economic benefits to the city and the activities involved.

«Given the great success of last year, 23 specific influencers and creators from the world of food and travel will arrive in Verona on Saturday to talk about the event and our city – explained Vice President Alex Camera, responsible for communications. – We will dedicate a masterclass to them where the food and wine excellences will be narrated through their channels. A tour dedicated to guests by Federagit – Confesercenti guides is also planned.” Creators, young influencers and more, involved family profiles that will attract a different audience. Over 4,500,000 followers divided across the Instagram and TikTok platforms will also be able to follow Le Piazze dei Sapori on the web.

The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests, the National Italian Tourism Board ENIT, the Veneto Region, the Province of Verona and the Municipality of Verona with the contribution of the Verona Chamber of Commerce. Among the highlighted events, the presentation of the Guardiano del Gusto award, promoted by Confesercenti, is scheduled for Saturday at 1pm.

The opening to the public is scheduled for Thursday 9 May from 12pm to 11pm, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 11pm, Sunday from 10am to 10pm. Entrance is free.
