The presence of Città Nuova among prisoners: prison project
In recent years the magazine New City promoted one “prison network”, a spontaneous group of people active in various ways in this area, who meet via zoom with a certain periodicity. We share experiences, difficulties, projects and perspectives. So as not to feel alone in taking care of this wounded humanity. From adults to the youngest. The Città Nuova magazine reaches numerous penitentiary institutions throughout Italy and accompanies various projects, thanks to the generosity of many readers. Thus, reading groups were born, led by volunteers which offer prisoners the opportunity to dialogue, reflect, tell their stories; or use the magazine to learn Italian; or even to act as a bridge with institutions, students and citizens thanks to events open to the city, linked to literary and artistic competitions.
Then, about two years ago, a special book was added to the magazine: Free to fall, free to fly, by Fernando Muraca. There are many Italian prisons where it was possible to make this gift and the institutions where the author was called to meet the inmates. Intense moments in which many found themselves and the meaning of their lives.
