| Stories of courage, but also tragic testimonies of gender violence still widespread in society, are those told in the book by Antonella Fontana and Grazia Tantalo “Piccole grandi donne”, published by Graus edizioni, which will be presented on Saturday 11 May at 5.30 pm, in Garden of the Gino Masciullo accommodation communities in Matera, within the information and awareness-raising activities of SottoSopra, a project selected by Con i Bambini as part of the Fund to combat child educational poverty. Among these, the story of Anna Rosa Fontana, brutally murdered in Matera in 2010 by her ex-boyfriend who had been released despite many complaints, whose birthday is May 11th. The text, the final draft of a project carried out with the “Giovanni Pascoli” comprehensive institute of Matera, highlights the serious shortcomings in the system of support and protection of victims and in the application of laws against domestic violence, underlining the urgency of adopting more effective prevention and enforcement measures and the application of severe penalties for attackers. The book therefore emphasizes the meaning and scope of the “Red Code”, the new legislation that strengthens the protection of those who suffer violence, persecutory acts and mistreatment, and tries to guarantee rapid and effective intervention by the police and the system judicial. In line with the principles and actions of the SottoSopra project, “Piccoli grandi donne” finally underlines the importance of promoting a culture of respect and equality from early childhood, through education and dialogue. Even the choice of the location for the presentation, a historic residential therapeutic-rehabilitative facility in Matera, aims to combat the stigma towards people undergoing treatment assisted by mental health services. In addition to the authors and students of the Pascoli comprehensive institute, the publisher Pietro Graus will speak at the presentation. At the end of the event, organized with the collaboration of the “Anna Rosa una di noi” association and the ASM, a red bench created by users of the Gino Masciullo housing community and the Serra Rifusa multipurpose integrated center will be inaugurated. | ||
