Sense of institutional responsibility or simple surrender to the League? This is the question that arises in the aftermath of the political/administrative controversy in Gallarate: Mayor Cassani offers an either/or to Forza Italia, threatens to expel it from the centre-right majority if it does not silence the city coordinator Nicola Mucci, guilty of having reiterated in an interview the need to start the study of a new territorial government plan, the old master plan. Mucci had already spoken out against the majority a few months ago, when Marco Travaglio, a sworn enemy of the Berlusconi, was invited to Duemilalibri. Interventions that had annoyed, quite a bit, the Northern League representatives in the council, first and foremost the mayor. Who today, after the latest release of his predecessor Mucci, has put his allies against the wall: either with me or against me. And they immediately fell in line.

Now, It is clear that Gallarate absolutely needs a new urban planning tool, Mucci did not say heresy but an obvious truth. Since the day Palazzo Borghi fell into the grips of the investigation soup kitchen, it seems that the civic administrators, after having scalded themselves with hot water, are afraid of scalding themselves with cold water too, and have set aside the urban planning discussion, a source of legal trouble. Furthermore, brilliantly resolved, as far as Cassani is concerned, with full acquittal: it had nothing to do with malfeasance, not even superficially.

So? The problem, rather than political, seems to us to be of a personal nature, Cassani and Mucci don’t get along, one doesn’t want interference and calls his ally/adversary “the little professor”; the other, thanks to his past as mayor, knows he is among the few in the administrative ranks of the center-right of Gallarate to rely on specific skills. And he has his say. Is it wrong in shape? It may be, but the substance is something else. And it’s not always wrong.

It remains to understand Forza Italia, the haste with which the provincial leaders, called into question, raised the white flag, submitting to Cassani to avoid ending up in a corner. Nicola Mucci also remains to be understood: as we know him, he has never been someone who has bowed his head so easily. In this specific case he bent it, obeying the “provincial” who called him out like an undisciplined schoolboy. We are missing something, if a party that is recovering at a national level, like Forza Italia, drops its pants in front of the Northern League mayor who raises his voice, it only means two things: either he knows that Mucci is wrong about something that concerns his sphere professional and which is not said, or in the province of Varese it is no longer the attacking party it once was. Maybe one or the other, and so on a month before the elections is not a great proof of political security. The Gallarate case ends here, but based on how things went It has consequences for the entire province. At least on consideration for a party that, locally, no longer dictates the line, but he has it dictated to him. It’s the fault of the judicial investigations that have decapitated him in the past, the fault of the new ruling class which, as they say, still has to gain experience. Turn it however you want, but this seems to be exactly the situation. And the Gallarate case is proof of this.
