Castellammare – Administrative and European elections, voting will take place on 8 and 9 June. that’s how

If only two candidates for mayor are confirmed there will be no run-off, everything will be decided in the first round.

In Castellammare di Stabia we vote to renew the city council and elect the new mayor. While you have until 12pm on Saturday 11 May to present the lists. Barring twists and turns, there will be only two sides, centre-left and centre-right, and only two candidates for mayor for whom there will be no run-off.

On Saturday 8 June and Sunday 9 June 2024 we will vote for the administrative elections which concern the renewal of the mayor and the municipal council of Castellammare di Stabia. The voting operations are held at the same time as the European Elections and will take place on Saturday 8 June from 3pm to 10pm and Sunday 9 June from 7am to 11pm. The opening of the polls and counting will begin, for the administrative elections, on Monday 10 June from 2pm, as the European Championship ballots will be scrutinized first.

Who can vote
All citizens who are at least 18 years old on the election date and resident in Castellammare di Stabia can vote. There will therefore be around 54 thousand people entitled to vote, compared to a population of just over 65,000 inhabitants. To vote you need an electoral card with still free spaces and a valid identification document. Unlike the European elections, off-campus students cannot vote. Italians residing abroad can vote in local elections by coming to Italy to vote in the municipality where they register on the electoral lists, as voting abroad is not permitted.

How to vote
You vote on a single ballot, blue, which will already contain the names of the candidates for the office of mayor and, under each of them, the symbol or symbols of the lists that support it.

There are three voting possibilities: you can only draw a mark on the symbol of a list (party),

thus assigning one’s preference to the marked list and to the associated mayoral candidate; you can only mark the name of the mayoral candidate, thus voting only for the mayoral candidate and not for the list or lists connected to the latter; a sign can be drawn on the symbol of a list (party), simultaneously drawing a mark on the name of a mayoral candidate not connected to the voted list; the latter case is the so-called ‘split vote’.

Each voter can also express, in the appropriate lines next to the list symbol, one or two preference votes, writing the surname of no more than two candidates included in the list he voted for. If two preferences are expressed, they must concern candidates of different sexes from the same list, under penalty of cancellation of the second preference.

The candidate who obtains the absolute majority of valid votes (at least 50% plus one) is elected mayor in the first round. In Castellammare di Stabia, as only two people are candidates for mayor, there will be no run-off.

For the allocation of seats in the City Council, lists which obtained less than 3% of the valid votes in the first round and which do not belong to any group of lists which, in the first round, exceeded this threshold are not admitted; the list linked to the elected Mayor, which has obtained at least 40% of the valid votes, is assigned 60% of the seats (majority prize).

The City Council
Once the mayor has been elected, the council is also defined: the coalition that supports the elected mayor will receive 2/3 of the available seats, while the remaining seats will be distributed proportionally among the other coalitions. Therefore, the winning coalition will get 16 seats while the other coalition will get 8 seats.
