signed the memorandum of understanding between the Municipality and the Local Health Authority for the management of wild boar in the municipal territory

The memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Municipality and the Local Health Authority of Teramo for the management of wild boar in the municipal territory.
After the issuing of a specific union ordinance for the installation of capture cages for the containment of ungulates, the document, already approved by the Council, was signed, which specifically provides for all the operational activities to be implemented, both for the placement of capture manholes and for the recovery and transport of animals.

Soon the Municipality, thanks also to the availability of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga Park Authority and in particular of the President Tommaso Navarra, will equip itself with the appropriate cages, which will be granted on free loan, and containment operations will begin immediately afterwards.

All management phases will be carried out in compliance with what is indicated from ISPRA and by the ASL of Teramo itself.
The protocol was signed by the Mayor Gianguido D’Alberto, by the Councilor with responsibility for animal welfare Pina Ciammariconi and by the manager of Area 7 Gianni Cimini for the Municipality of Teramo and by the Manager of the Complex Operational Unit “Veterinary service for food hygiene and livestock production” Mario Di Domenicantonio “by the Manager of the complex operational unit “Animal Health Veterinary Service” Enzino De Febiis for the ASL. The ecological policeman Vincenzo Calvarese will coordinate the collection and transport operations.

“This protocol represents the first act adopted in the Province of Teramo between a Municipality and the ASL to address the problem of the excessive number of ungulates – underlines the Mayor Gianguido D’Alberto – and constitutes a significant step forward for what concerns the human-animal relationship in the territory as well as for the prevention of pathologies affecting these species, such as swine fever, which is affecting some areas of Northern Italy and on which it is necessary to raise the level of attention and strengthen prevention measures, also to avoid its spread among animals in our territory. The Municipalities continue to do their part on a problem which however requires organic and strong action on the part of the competent institutional levels, starting from the Region”.

“As part of this protocol for the containment of wild boars in the area – underlines the Manager of the complex operational unit “Veterinary Service for food hygiene and livestock production” Mario Di Domenicantonio – the role of the veterinary service will obviously be more of a technical nature and will involve the entire part relating to animal welfare in the various phases, the control of infectious diseases that may be present among ungulates and the technical and bureaucratic aspects linked to the transport of animals captured and transferred to the authorized slaughter establishments. We hope that this protocol, together with other interventions such as selection hunting, will represent a valid aid for the containment of the ungulates themselves”.
