The sixteenth edition of “Corri Catania” is upon us, ready to involve citizens and running enthusiasts in a supportive and exciting event. Scheduled for Sunday 12 May, the 5 km walking race, open to all, promises to combine sport, solidarity and fun.

During the presentation press conference, chaired by the mayor Enrico Trantino and the sports councilor Sergio Parisi, the details of this year’s program were illustrated, including the route and collateral initiatives at the Corri Catania Village, which was set up in Piazza Università as early as May 9th.

Among the illustrious guests present, names from the local sporting scene stand out such as Salvatore “Tiger Eyes” Cavallaro, the first Catanian to participate in boxing at the upcoming Paris Olympics, Giusi Malato, a prominent figure in Catania water polo, Salvo Campanella (wrestling) and Raimondo Alecci (table tennis).

The heart of the event will be the solidarity project “Officina del Cuore”, in support of the Italian Red Cross-Comitato di Catania. The funds raised will be used to create an equipped cardiology area within the Red Cross solidarity medical clinic, to offer prevention and treatment services to economically disadvantaged people and the most vulnerable in the community.

The race route will start at 10:00 from Piazza Università and will wind through the main streets of the city, offering participants a suggestive and varied panorama. Along the 5 km, the runners will cross via Etnea, via Argentina, via Sant’Euplio, viale Regina Margherita, Villa Bellini, via Santa Maddalena, via Gesualdo Clementi, piazza Dante, via Quartarone, via Teatro Greco, piazza San Francesco, via Gagliani , via Garibaldi, via Castello Ursino, piazza Federico di Svevia, via San Sebastiano, via Transito, via Auteri, piazza Mazzini and via Garibaldi, to then reach piazza Duomo and return to piazza Università, where the final party will be held.

The “Corri Catania” is not just a sporting event, but a moment of union and solidarity for the city, which is committed to supporting those in need through concrete commitment and passion for sport.
