Milan, Inter, Roma and Juve united against the president of the Lega Serie A: the letter

Tough stance taken by Roma, Juventus, Milan and Inter who, together, sent a letter in which they made it known not wanting to be represented by the president of the League Lorenzo Casini in institutional meetings.

The four clubs, which represent 70% of Serie A’s economic income, together, disheartened Casini with a letter sent to the League before the meeting with Abodi. Among the reasons for the split is the reduction in the number of teams in the Italian top league with the possible move to 18 clubs. This is the letter from the clubs published by Corriere dello Sport:

“Dear President, following yesterday’s informal meeting, we would like to represent the following to you. During the meeting, reference was made on several occasions to positions represented by you in institutional bodies based on the document approved by the LNPA Assembly on 14 February. Our societies did not approve that document, nor its contents. We therefore ask you, starting from tomorrow’s meeting with the Minister of Sport as well as in any other institutional context in which you will represent the positions of the Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A based on that document, to clarify in advance that these are positions that are not shared approved by our Clubs”.

The League’s response

The League responded through a statement published by Ansa to the letter signed by the four teams, united by the same thought. This is the answer:

“The document approved by the Assembly has never been publicly represented as having been voted unanimously. From the day of the meeting in which it was presented, it was immediately said that only 4 teams had abstained from the vote, due to their opposition only to the point relating to the 20 and 18 team championship formula”.

The League of A adds that “On the contrary, there was sharing and contribution from all the clubs in its drafting. The same document also represents the basis on which, upon mandate from all the clubs, the proposals are being carried out to obtain the greater weight and autonomy that Lega A has been demanding for some time.”

Yesterday, after the meeting with Abodi, Casini declared only that: “I am satisfied with the meeting, all parties expressed their opinions and points of view. The text represented a working hypothesis to open that debate which today has reached a point of failure and not a definitive document. I have collected the position and suggestions, now we will make the appropriate assessments before bringing the bill to one of the next Council of Ministers”.
