Port of Civitavecchia, 340 kilograms of drugs seized. Two arrests

The port of Civitavecchia is confirmed as an important hub for international drug trafficking. Two loads of hashish and marijuana about to be introduced into the national territory were intercepted by the Financiers of the Provincial Command of Rome and by the staff of the Customs and Monopolies Agency of Civitavecchia, who arrested the drivers of two articulated vehicles coming from Barcelona, a Portuguese citizen and an Italian.

For both, the alleged crime is that of international drug trafficking. With the support of Ice and Jackpot, the two dogs supplied to the Civitavecchia Group, the Fiamme Gialle together with the officials of the local Customs Office found, during routine checks on vehicles arriving from Spain, numerous packages of marijuana and hundreds of blocks of hashish hidden among the pallets of fruit and vegetables. Once the drugs reached the drug dealing centers, they would have brought in revenues of over 3 million euros. The covering load, hundreds of crates of fresh fruit and vegetables, at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, was donated to voluntary associations in Civitavecchia to be given to people in need. The two operations, which are the result of the profitable synergy between the Corps and the Customs and Monopolies Agency, recently strengthened by the Memorandum of Understanding recently signed between the two institutions, are part of the broader mechanism implemented to combat illicit trafficking at the capital’s ports and airports. As always, the criminal proceedings are in the preliminary investigation phase and, pending final judgement, the presumption of not guilt applies to the two people arrested.
