“Narrowest street in the world”, sign and Maps indication in Trani

Exploring the dense streets of the historic center of Trani, if you activate ‘Google Maps’ an icon will appear that reads: “the narrowest street in the world”. It might not be good news for the most claustrophobic, but what is indicated by the search engine as “a tourist attraction” certainly arouses curiosity, and quite a bit. After a few empty turns, there is the narrow street, set within a typical Apulian corner, among folklore symbols, religious icons and stone walls. At the end of the road there is a clearly visible sign in front of you, with a maxim written in both Italian and English: “If you want to find luck, you will have to pass through the small road, and then leave a coin”. Is this an ancient propitiatory rite, or a clever tourist gimmick?

It would seem to be more the latter, judging by the lack of involvement in the facts proclaimed by the Municipality, which confesses to Telebari that it has nothing to do with the mysterious sign that appeared in Trani, also denying the belief that the road is actually the most grasp of the world. No legend therefore revolves around the fascinating alley, nor is there any connection with the ancient local traditions, despite the vaguely medieval references. So who is hiding behind the mystery of the little road in Trani? Maybe some accommodation facility? An enigma that we are currently unable to solve.
