Sight days: 600 free visits with ophthalmologists – Pescara

PESCARA. Over 600 free eye exams during the “Sight Days” project of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Italia Foundation, which aims to offer help to disadvantaged people.
The project, sponsored by the Municipality of Pescara, the Chamber of Deputies and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, in collaboration with the D’Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara, started yesterday and will continue until May 17th. For the second time in Pescara, the foundation will carry out eye exams for vulnerable people free of charge, donating eyeglasses to those in need. The initiative is aimed at vulnerable people identified by the associations involved in the project and, given its strong social impact, was inaugurated in the presence of the president of the Abruzzo Region, Marcus Marsilioof the rector Liborio Stuppia and the regional health councilor, Nicoletta Verì. A complete eye clinic has been set up at the Aurum, thanks to the technical equipment donated by Essilor, in which with the support of the Pescara-Penne diocesan Caritas over 600 people will be visited by the team of ophthalmologists and orthoptists coordinated by the professor Leonardo Mastropasqua, director of the National High Technology Center of Chieti – Pescara (Cnat). Immediately after the medical examination, the opticians of GrandVision and Salmoiraghi & Viganò will identify the best vision solution based on the prescription. The EssilorLuxottica volunteers from the Città Sant’Angelo plant will facilitate the flow of eye exams and the choice of glasses model and each of them will participate in the activity by donating a day of leave.
The Pescara stage is configured as a special stage as the Aurum was also the scene of another project of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica foundation: the Judo Academy, a sports initiative created in collaboration with Fispic (Italian Paralympic sports federation for the visually impaired and blind). In fact, in the courtyard of the Aurum, a demonstration with a strong emotional impact was held by visually impaired and blind judo athletes, in order to anticipate the real Academy that will be held next weekend: Saturday and Sunday, in the Palauda gym in via dei Vestini The last stage of the Judo Academy program will take place in Chieti, a sports training project through which the Foundation aims to contribute to improving social integration through sporting activity. It is a virtuous synergy that is aimed at vulnerable people and translates into the opportunity to practice sport despite blindness or serious visual problems, offering, at the same time, a path to individual health and well-being and social inclusion. During the sporting matches, in addition to the athletes’ sporting preparation, demonstration academies are planned which are open to all visually impaired and blind people wishing to explore the world of judo. At the end of the last day, HumanWare, a company of the EssilorLuxottica group specializing in intuitive and intelligent solutions for people with vision defects, will organize a competition among the participants, and the winners will have the opportunity to receive special devices. During the inauguration there will be sports demonstrations among visually impaired athletes, assisted by EssilorLuxottica volunteers.
