Viterbo – This is the proposal of Archeotuscia and other associations presented at the cultural center of Valle Faul

Viterbo – “A single archaeological and naturalistic park for the necropolises of Norchia, Castel d’Asso and Grotta Porcina”. The proposal comes from Archeotuscia and the Salviamo Norchia association. And it was launched yesterday afternoon in the auditorium of the cultural center of the Carivit foundation in Valle Faul, Viterbo.

Roberto Oriolesi

“In these necropolises – explained the president of Salviamo Norchia, Roberto Oriolesi – there are monuments that are unique in the world. Known everywhere. We want them to be accessible to everyone. We want to protect the local fauna and flora, characterized by rare species. To create the park, cooperation between all the players in the field, starting from the institutions, is essential.”

Together with Oriolesi, there is also the president of Archeotuscia Luciano Proietti.

In the room, the prefect Gennaro Capo, the mayor Chiara Frontini, the president of the province Alessandro Romoli, the commissioner Fausto Vinci, the regional councilors Daniele Sabatini and Giulio Zelli, Elisabetta De Minicis of the Carivit foundation and the superintendent Margherita Eichberg.

Two of the three archaeological sites, Norchia and Castel d’Asso, fall within the territory of the municipality of Viterbo. One, Grotta Porcina, on that of Vetralla.

“The necropolis of Norchia – said Proietti – is a unique testimony of its kind. Also called the Petra of Italy, Castel d’Asso and Grotta Porcina offer a unique spectacle”.

“The foundation – underlined De Minicis – has always been sensitive to the dynamics of the territory, as well as those of associations. With calls and funding for associations whose objective is the protection of cultural heritage. Associations are essential for communicating to citizens what the institutions are doing. It is necessary to create synergy between these different presences, without anyone dominating the other. Dialogue is decisive.”

“Today (ed) – continued Romoli – is a moment of active reflection. The starting point of an initiative that must find a concrete outcome. We are ready to make the provincial administration’s own resources available to create the archaeological and naturalistic park”.

“An opportunity for discussion and growth – added Frontini -. The appeal launched by the associations that organized this day reached each of us. The administration is investing heavily in enhancing the identity and historical places of the area.”

The Chief Prefect, the police commissioner Vinci and the superintendent Eichberg also intervened.

“All our appreciation – commented the prefect – for the common effort and the proposal. We must all support this initiative.”

Fausto Vinci

“In Tuscia – highlighted Vinci – there are extraordinary places that should be valorised a little better. You have a diamond in your hand and perhaps you don’t realize it. And the proposed initiatives should aim precisely at this.”

Finally Margherita Eichberg. “Norchia, Castel d’Asso and Porcina Cave. These are three sites that are unique for their characteristics. And as a superintendent we have never stopped dedicating ourselves to these three realities. However, when we saw the proposal we wondered how it would be possible to systematize them, given the distances. But anything is possible.”
