Notice of conclusion of investigations for the people involved in the Aspide operation, the latest scandal to hit the Trapani healthcare system.
A total of 13 people were involved in the prosecutor’s investigation focused on the ASP of the capital. The types of crime vary from corruption to fraud against a public body. And also fraud in public supplies, ideological and material falsehood committed by the public official, revelation of official secrets, personal aiding and abetting and false attestations of presence on duty.
The investigation, carried out by the Guardia di Finanza, also involved the former health director of the ASP of Trapani, Gioacchino Oddo and the manager Maria Pia Messina.
The Guardia di Finanza believes it has discovered a mechanism for taming and manipulating tender procedures, public competitions and assignments of managerial positions within the health facilities of Trapani, in a collusive context and according to a clientelistic logic. All this, with the complacency of several public officials.
Among those under investigation are also Anna Lisa Bianco, president of the municipal council of Trapani and the entrepreneur Giovanni Fullone Iacono, who at the time held the role of municipal councilor of Mazara del Vallo: both had ended up under house arrest.
The only ones to end up in prison, however, were Gioacchino Oddo and Maria Pia Messina, who were then placed under house arrest. A provision, however, which was revoked about two months ago and thanks to which both Messina and Oddo were released again.
