Goodbye to the Nettuno pedestrian overpass thanks to the money from the antennas

The pedestrian overpass of Nettuno stationnow closed for some time and at risk of collapse, will be demolished.

This is what can be seen from the decision published in the praetorian notice board which announced the procedure for the assignment of the design and management of the works. The railway overpass is 100 meters long and 3.5 meters wide, runs at a height of 7 metres, is at risk of collapse and is also damaged by vandalism.

Closed since 2018, talks about redevelopment began in 2019 with two different projects. (READ ALSO: The Municipality of Nettuno does not have the money to buy the Railways area, the proposals).

The two different redevelopment projects of the Nettuno station flyover

The first project involved the demolition of the overpass with the creation of a level pedestrian path. Intervention with an estimated cost of 400 thousand euros.

The second project was the partial demolition and reconstruction of the overpass, which was decidedly expensive (estimated cost 1.1 million euros) with interventions aimed at the recovery and structural rehabilitation and the subsequent reconstruction of the previously demolished portions (railings, flooring, screeds, stairs). and with a level crossing that would also allow cars to pass. Half of these costs would have been attributable to Ferrovie dello Stato.

In the end we decided on the first solution.

Once demolished, a path for pedestrians and cyclists will be created in place of the overpass which will significantly shorten the walking distance to get to the centre. The passage will in fact connect via Marche, via Lombardia, via Lazio and others with via Visca, passing immediately after the head of the terminal tracks of the Rome-Nettuno railway.

The overall amount of the intervention has been confirmed as 400,000 euros, financed with municipal budget funds coming from the proceeds of mobile telephone antennas – radio base stations.

There is no start date for the works yet, but according to the three-year plan for public works it should be by 2024. For the moment there is space for planning the intervention.
