Giro, Foligno-Perugia: route, favorites, betting odds, times, GPM and where to watch the time trial live on TV and streaming

We expected fireworks in the dirt stage and we got them with the action of Alaphilippe. In the standings, however, nothing has moved and who thought that Pogacar could definitively close the Giro, we had to change our minds. Indeed, the Slovenian seemed inclined to leave the pink jersey to Plapp who was on the run… But keep an eye out for the time trial in Perugia, another test for the men in the rankings. Geraint Thomas will try to gnaw something right at Pogacar who, in the last major time trial faced, experienced one of his worst days in the race: that of Combloux in which Vingegaard closed the 2023 Tour de France. But who is the favorite between the Slovenian and the Welshman ? In reality it is the captain of the UAE Emirates who can make the coup. Italy tries with Ganna, Related and the Under 23 time trial world champion Lorenzo Milesi.

Foligno-Perugia: the route

After the dirt road stage, another important fraction for the general classification. The first 34 km will be for pure specialists, given the totally flat format. TO Valleceppi Bridge the road will surge with a 1.3 km ramp at 10.7%, with a peak at 16%, which leads to Casaglia. Once past this, the road will continue to climb until the finish line, but more gently up to the ramp Perugia. However, a real climb of 6.6 km at an average gradient of 4.1%.

Foligno-Perugia: Giro d'Italia 2024 altimetry

All the climbs

-At km 35.5 Casaglia (no GPM): 1.3 km at 10.7%, peaking at 16%;

-At km 41 Perugia (4th category): 6.6 km at 4.1%, peaking at 9.5%;

The favourites

With the climbs in Casaglia and Perugia, it is very difficult for a pure time trialist to conquer the 7th stage of this edition of the Giro. Considering that Pogacar he also saved himself in the dirt road section, the Slovenian is the big favorite of the day. The captain of the UAE Emirates can thus definitively split the general classification, going on to win his 6th time trial in his career (the third in a Grand Tour after the two time trials won in his career at the Tour de France).

Filippo Ganna However, he doesn’t want to leave the field open to the Slovenian and the former World Champion in time trials will try. The final climb to Perugia could be an obstacle, but Ganna is in great form seeing what he did in Andora. He will even try Geraint Thomasanother time trial expert who wants to nibble a few seconds off Pogacar in the general classification.

We wait for a shot from Tiberi And Lutsenkowhile it becomes difficult to think that the Azzurri Related And Milesi can fight for the final victory. Again for the discussion of the final climb of Perugia.
