While discussions have not yet died down on the ways in which the council discussion on the PRG was carried out, on the question of incompatibilities and on the numbers with which the urban planning instrument was approved, and while the controversy of the national and regional leaders of Fratelli still rages of Italy towards the councilor Giuffrida and his attack on the Melonian municipal councilor Rocco Bitetti, while Ragusan politics is busy on this matter, the three ‘Frondist’ councilors Sebastiano Zagami, Rossana Caruso and Federico Bennardo are already busy in another of their initiatives which we could define, with language borrowed from the world of boxing, as working alongside the Cassì administration. Initiatives always characterized by an apparently helpful attitude towards the administration but essentially critical of the latter’s actions or shortcomings. Proof of this is this latest urgent oral question on the “persistent degradation in the hamlet of San Giacomo”. Zagami Caruso and Bennardo write to the mayor Giuseppe Cassì, to the councilor for the Contrade Andrea Distefano and to the president of the municipal council Fabrizio Ilardo, requesting urgent intervention to address the conditions of degradation in the hamlet of San Giacomo.

The question highlights serious infrastructural problems that require immediate maintenance and modernization actions. In particular, problems have been reported relating to roundabouts overgrown with vegetation, which compromise road safety, and precarious conditions of the roads and the lighting system, which increase the risk for pedestrians and vehicles and contribute to high energy waste. The councilors requested a thorough cleaning of roundabouts and roads to ensure safety and visibility, a complete renovation of the lighting system with modern and efficient technologies, to improve public safety and reduce environmental impact.

Councilors Zagami, Caruso and Bennardo jointly state: “Attention will be placed on all the districts of the Municipality of Ragusa to ensure that similar interventions are carried out wherever necessary. It is essential that the Administration acts quickly to ensure not only the safety, but also the quality of life of all citizens.” The councilors await an oral response from the Administration and declare themselves ready to collaborate actively to resolve these critical issues, reiterating their commitment to supporting the community of San Giacomo and the entire Municipality of Ragusa. In the meantime, Federico Bennardo, this time alone, has returned to the issue of maintenance of the various defibrillators installed in the city, often the result of donations from associations and/or private individuals. The young councilor notes that a determination has been issued by the relevant municipal sector for the maintenance of all devices managed by the institution.

And he explains “to complete and update the previous communication on the reports received regarding the malfunction of some municipal defibrillators and with particular reference to the one located in Piazza Duomo in Ragusa Ibla, I inform you that, with determination of sector IV n.425/2024, it has been our request for maintenance of the defibrillators to date has been accepted in the provisions of the Palazzo dell’Aquila body”. Then he adds “we will intervene not only in the one present in Piazza Duomo, but also in all the others. A necessary intervention that secures those machines, many of which were donated by charities, which have not had to undergo proper maintenance over the years. I now hope for prompt intervention by the assignee company and I take this opportunity to thank those who have reported any shortcomings in recent months: citizens attentive to the common good. Now, I repeat, a check-up is necessary at regular intervals over time in the hope of never having to resort to using any of these machines despite being aware of their silent importance”. (dice.)
