Foligno turns pink. In fact, everything is ready in the city for the arrival of the Giro d’Italia. The appointment is for Friday 10 May with the time trial stage which will take cyclists from Foligno to Perugia with staggered departures from 1pm to 4.30pm. And while the anticipation grows among enthusiasts and onlookers, the collateral initiatives that accompany this seventh stage of the pink race continue.

Among the upcoming events is the “Giro delle Eccellenze”, promoted by Gal Valle Umbra and Sibillini. Given that the Giro d’Italia caravan will touch the territories of the Umbrian Valley and the Nerina Valley on 10 and 11 May, the Gal has organized an event dedicated to the discovery of the typical products of these territories. In particular, the initiative envisages the setting up of the Gal Village on Friday, starting from 10am, near the Giro’s hospitality area set up at the Plateatico, the car park from which the athletes will depart for the time trial stage. For the occasion, a photographic exhibition and an intense program of tastings will be proposed from 11am to 5pm, which will welcome cycling enthusiasts who will thus have the opportunity to discover the food and wine production of the area. On Saturday, then, the “Giro delle Eccellenze” will arrive in Spoleto and, specifically, in Piazza Garibaldi, where the eighth stage of the Giro from Spoleto to Prati di Tivo is scheduled to start. Here the Gal will set up an exhibition space, with distribution of information material and a front desk for tourists. “The event will also make our territories protagonists – commented president Pietro Bellini – and the Gal can only make the most of this important showcase to raise awareness of food and wine excellence. The idea of the ‘Giro delle Eccellenze’ was born from the union between the sporting event and our food and wine champions”. “Our presence in these events is of fundamental importance – underlined the director of the Gal, David Fongoli – in order to give visibility not only to the large municipalities, but also to enhance and promote the more marginal territories where much of the food and wine excellences are produced ”.

Returning to the pink race, to guarantee the safe running of the competition, there are – as is known – restrictions on traffic and consequently changes to some services such as waste collection. Specifically, in fact, in Foligno in via Fratelli Bandiera – as communicated by Valle Umbra Servizi – the paper and cardboard collection service will be postponed from Friday 10 May to Saturday 11 May: in order to ensure public decorum it is recommended not to display waste before 8pm on Friday 10 May. However, as regards the changes to traffic circulation, in addition to those already announced in the article at the following link which will affect Foligno, limitations are also foreseen on the road network managed by Anas, both for 10 and 11 May. In particular, for Friday 10 May from 8am to 5.30pm the following junctions along the state road 75 “Centrale Umbra” will be closed: the Foligno Nord junction and the Spello junction will be closed on entry and exit both towards Perugia and in the direction of Foligno, while the Rivotorto junction will only be closed on exit for those traveling in the direction of Foligno. However, transit along state road 75 between Perugia and Foligno is regularly permitted. The Collestrada exit is closed for those traveling in the direction of Cesena along the state road 3 bis “Tiberina” (E45). On Saturday 11 May, however, state road 3 “Flaminia” will be closed from 9am to 4.30pm in both directions from the Eggi a Testaccio junction (km 123,300) in the municipality of Spoleto; the state road 685 “Tre Valli Umbre”, again in both directions, between Sant’Anatolia di Narco and Piedipaterno (Vallo di Nera); and the state road 471 “Leonessa”, also in this case in both directions, between Ruscio (Monteleone di Spoleto) and the regional border towards Leonessa. Traffic, Anas says, will be diverted with on-site indications and the closures will be carried out by the police and Anas teams in coordination with the Prefecture and the police themselves.
